The Gist…

The Special Investigations Lead will lead special investigation efforts, templatize reports, and conduct in-depth analysis driven by indicators discovered by investigators and data team members. You will analyze data related to fraudulent transactions to understand tactics, techniques, and procedures used by threat actors to mitigate fraud and recommend control changes to prevent fraudulent transactions. You will also lead larger scale analysis exercises with the investigations team to review statistically significant samples for broader policy change recommendations and author papers to share the findings and recommendations with leadership in the anti-fraud organization. Our Lead will also support PMO efforts in executing roadmap initiatives to mature the operational processes within the team and support in creating standard operating procedures (SOPs) when their expertise is applicable.

 

What Your Day Might Include…

 

  • Triage leads to prioritize for further investigation; escalate suspected large-scale fraud events to the Government lead, per the fraud escalation process.
  • Investigate user cases that are alerted for suspected identity fraud using an investigative database from which the alerts were derived. 
  • Liaise with agency partners to collect data and information; recommend actions to Login and partner agencies to address suspected fraudulent accounts, per the fraud escalation process. 
  • Document and upload findings supporting their disposition into a case management tool that can be referenced later for redress requests and other investigative purposes. 
  • Provide investigative support to partner agencies and Government investigative bodies, such as Offices of Inspectors General, on cases related to individuals committing fraud via Login.gov access.
  • Provide program/project management support and subject matter expertise; assist development of the anti-fraud program strategy to combat identity-based fraud, based on identified control gaps, data analytics insights, and lessons learned from industry.  
  • Provide strategic guidance to the and Security and Fraud teams to
    • Encourage exchange of information and best practices and 2) strengthen the Login.gov program to empower the Government to improve policy and decision making and create a better customer experience. 
  • Serve as partner in detecting and mitigating synthetic identity fraud, identity theft, and account takeover and communicating with external entities related to detection and mitigation of fraud. 
  • Support ad-hoc emerging requests from Login.gov government executive and Program leadership pertaining to general business analysis, technology products, data analysis, fraud operations, and strategy. 
  • Mentor and guide individual investigators on the Special Investigations team and liase with the Federal leads to set priorities and execute the team’s mission.

 

Qualifications

 
  • U.S. Citizenship required to obtain Public Trust
  • Bachelor Degree 
  • 10+ years of Investigations Experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams
