Outreach & Financial Empowerment Program Coordinator
Full-Time LISC AmeriCorps Service Opportunity | Opportunity Resource Fund (OppFund)
Build Your Career. Empower Communities. Create Opportunity.
Are you passionate about financial empowerment, affordable homeownership, small business growth, and making a meaningful difference in your community? Opportunity Resource Fund (OppFund) is seeking a motivated, community-minded individual to join our team as an Outreach & Financial Empowerment Program Coordinator through the LISC AmeriCorps program.
This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a mission-driven Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) while helping individuals and families access the knowledge, resources, and financial tools they need to build stronger futures.
At OppFund, we believe everyone deserves an opportunity to thrive. Through financial education, community outreach, and access to responsible lending, we work to create equitable, economic, and sustainable opportunities throughout Michigan - one person, one job, one home at a time.
If you are ready to grow professionally while contributing to meaningful community impact, we encourage you to apply.
About the Role
The Outreach & Financial Empowerment Program Coordinator will support OppFund's community-based programming by connecting individuals and families with financial education, housing resources, and opportunities to build financial stability. Working alongside OppFund's lending, program, and impact teams, the AmeriCorps Member will help strengthen outreach efforts, engage prospective clients, facilitate educational programming, and support individuals working toward their financial and housing goals.
This role offers valuable exposure to the CDFI sector, affordable housing finance, entrepreneurship, financial counseling, and community development. You will develop practical skills, build relationships with community partners, and learn how mission-driven lending can expand access to capital and economic opportunity.
What You'll Do
Client Engagement & Financial Education
- Conduct outreach and intake for prospective clients, with an emphasis on reaching underserved communities.
- Facilitate group orientations and individual sessions to welcome participants and connect them with appropriate resources.
- Support financial literacy workshops covering budgeting, credit building, savings, and housing readiness.
- Provide follow-up support to individuals pursuing financial wellness, homeownership, and other housing-related goals.
- Track participant engagement, progress, and outcomes using OppFund's customer relationship management (CRM) tools.
Community Outreach & Partnerships
- Help develop outreach strategies that connect OppFund's programs and services with communities throughout Michigan.
- Represent OppFund at community events, resource fairs, housing workshops, and small business events.
- Build relationships with nonprofit organizations, neighborhood associations, and community service providers.
- Help promote OppFund's lending programs, financial education resources, and services that support inclusive access to capital.
Program Development & Impact
- Assist in creating and distributing educational materials and outreach content for print and digital platforms.
- Support program evaluation through data collection, participant feedback, and reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve program workflows, strengthen participant experiences, and increase program efficiency.
- Collaborate with colleagues on cross-functional projects, team meetings, and community development initiatives.
Professional Development & CDFI Experience
- Participate in required LISC AmeriCorps training, peer-learning opportunities, and service reporting.
- Attend relevant conferences, webinars, and site visits to learn about community development, affordable housing finance, and equitable economic growth.
- Receive mentorship and guidance from OppFund's lending, program, and impact professionals.
- Gain exposure to lending operations by shadowing loan officers and participating in appropriate underwriting, loan servicing, and impact measurement meetings.
What We're Looking For
We welcome candidates who are eager to learn, committed to community service, and interested in building a career in community development.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- A genuine interest in financial empowerment, affordable housing, small business development, or economic opportunity.

- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- A willingness to learn, take initiative, and work collaboratively across teams.
- Comfort using digital tools and a willingness to learn client tracking and reporting systems.
- An interest in community outreach, relationship building, and public engagement.
Prior experience in financial education, nonprofit organizations, community outreach, or customer service is helpful but not required. We encourage individuals seeking to enter the community development field to apply.
