Description -

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Motherboard DC-DC Power Delivery Engineer to develop and optimize power delivery solutions for high-performance desktop and workstation platforms. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, validation, and implementation of motherboard voltage regulator (VR) and DC-DC converter solutions that meet performance, efficiency, cost, reliability, and schedule requirements.

This role requires close collaboration with silicon vendors, component suppliers, PCB designers, thermal engineers, system architects, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust power solutions for next-generation computing products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop motherboard power delivery architectures, including multiphase VRs, POL converters, and auxiliary DC-DC power circuits.
  • Define power requirements and translate platform specifications into detailed power delivery solutions.
  • Perform power integrity analysis, voltage regulation assessment, transient response evaluation, and efficiency optimization.
  • Select and qualify power management ICs, MOSFETs, inductors, capacitors, and related components.
  • Review schematics, PCB layouts, and stack-ups to ensure power delivery performance, signal integrity, thermal compliance, and manufacturability.
  • Conduct laboratory validation and debugging of power circuits using oscilloscopes, network analyzers, electronic loads, and other test equipment.
  • Investigate power-related system issues and drive root cause analysis through resolution.
  • Collaborate with CPU, GPU, memory, and system architects to ensure platform power requirements are achieved.
  • Work with suppliers and ODM partners on component selection, design reviews, validation plans, and issue resolution.
  • Support power, performance, thermal, reliability, EMI/EMC, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Create design guidelines, validation reports, and engineering documentation.
  • Support product development from architecture through production release and sustaining phases.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in power electronics, voltage regulator design, or motherboard power delivery development.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Multiphase VR architectures
    • DC-DC converter topology and control loops
    • Power integrity principles
    • Switching power supply design and optimization
  • Experience with motherboard schematic review and PCB layout practices.
  • Familiarity with Intel and/or AMD processor power delivery requirements.
  • Hands-on experience using:
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Current probes
    • Electronic loads
    • Power analyzers
    • Network analyzers
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional product development teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with desktop, workstation, gaming, or server motherboard development.
  • Familiarity with power simulation and modeling tools such as SIMPLIS, LTspice, PLECS, PowerDC, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of processor power management technologies and telemetry interfaces.
  • Experience supporting product qualification, reliability testing, and manufacturing ramp.
  • Understanding of thermal design and VR cooling solutions.
  • Knowledge of industry standards related to power efficiency, safety, and EMC compliance.
