Role Summary
The Model Shop Leader is responsible for leading the safe and efficient operation of the Model Shop, which supports R&D and customer evaluations through sample fabrication, process condition evaluation, equipment operation, and high-quality sample preparation.
This role leads the Model Shop team, coordinates daily operations and priorities, and ensures that samples and evaluations are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. The leader also works closely with R&D, Product Engineering, Quality, EHS, and Manufacturing teams to improve operational standards, equipment reliability, documentation, and overall Model Shop capability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage daily Model Shop operations to ensure safe, efficient, and timely execution of sample preparation and evaluation activities.
- Plan, prioritize, and coordinate resources to meet R&D and customer sample requirements.
- Ensure compliance with EHS standards, quality requirements, and operational procedures.
- Supervise and develop Model Shop personnel through coaching, training, and performance management.
- Oversee equipment utilization, maintenance, and troubleshooting to maximize operational reliability.
- Establish and maintain standardized work processes, documentation, and shop-floor discipline.
- Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering teams to support development projects and customer needs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Manage inventory, materials, and facility resources to support uninterrupted operations.
- Communicate operational status, priorities, risks, and improvement opportunities to management and stakeholders.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in chemical processing, semiconductor materials, R&D laboratory operations, pilot-scale operations, or manufacturing.
- Experience in sample preparation, process equipment operation, process evaluation, or chemical handling.
- Strong understanding of EHS requirements and safe operating practices.
- Strong documentation, communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple requests and coordinate resources in a dynamic R&D and operational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory or people-leadership experience.
- Experience leading technicians and coordinating daily shop-floor operations.
- Experience in slurry, cleans, specialty chemicals, or semiconductor electronic materials.
- Experience with equipment maintenance, qualification, calibration, or facility improvement projects.
- Knowledge of process control, statistical analysis, DOE, or structured troubleshooting methods.
- Experience supporting R&D sample fabrication, customer evaluations, product scale-up, or technology transfer.
