Position Purpose
Saint Francis Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Of New England, is seeking an experienced and collaborative Nurse Manager to lead our Float Pool and Centralized Staffing Operations. This leader will be responsible for the clinical, operational, and strategic oversight of the nursing float pool while supporting workforce optimization across the hospital.
The Nurse Manager will lead the continued expansion and development of a highly skilled float pool team that supports multiple patient care areas, ensuring safe staffing, operational efficiency, exceptional patient outcomes, and an outstanding colleague experience. This role works closely with Nursing Leadership, Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, and hospital operations to develop innovative staffing strategies, improve resource utilization, and strengthen workforce flexibility throughout the organization.
What You Will Do
- Provide operational and clinical leadership for the hospital's nursing float pool and centralized staffing functions.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, retention, engagement, and professional development of float pool nurses and support staff.
- Develop and execute strategic plans to expand float pool utilization across inpatient and specialty areas.
- Oversee centralized staffing and scheduling processes to ensure safe, equitable, and cost-effective staffing coverage.
- Monitor staffing plans, productivity, patient acuity, and census trends to optimize workforce deployment.
- Collaborate with nursing and operational leaders to identify staffing challenges and implement proactive solutions.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, organizational policies, and professional nursing practice standards.
- Utilize staffing data, quality metrics, and workforce analytics to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professional growth, and relationship-based care.
- Support organizational goals related to colleague experience, patient satisfaction, quality outcomes, and financial stewardship.
- Promote evidence-based practice, patient safety initiatives, and nursing excellence throughout the organization.
- Partner with education, clinical leadership, and shared governance teams to support onboarding, competency validation, and ongoing clinical development of float pool staff.
- Serve as a change leader for staffing innovation, workforce flexibility, and operational transformation initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Direct management and supervision of Float Pool colleagues.
- Accountability for hiring, coaching, performance management, employee engagement, and succession planning.
- Management of staffing resources, schedules, staffing systems, and labor optimization initiatives.
- Development and implementation of departmental goals aligned with organizational priorities.
- Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to support patient-centered care delivery across multiple service lines.
- Financial management including labor productivity, budgeting, overtime reduction, and resource stewardship.
- Participation in hospital-wide committees, quality initiatives, and strategic workforce planning efforts.
What You Will Need
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Connecticut.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Minimum three (3) years of progressive nursing leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience in staffing, scheduling, workforce management, or operational nursing leadership.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, regulatory requirements, quality metrics, and patient safety principles.Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
- Experience leading float pool, staffing office, centralized scheduling, patient placement, or resource management teams.
- Experience with staffing and scheduling software systems.
- Certification in Nursing Leadership preferred.
- Experience in a complex acute care hospital environment.

Pay Range: $XX.XX - $YY.YY per hour
Pay is based on experience, education, skills, certifications, and internal equity. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be compensated on a salary basis equivalent to the stated hourly range. Geographic differentials may apply.
