Area Manager – Pharmacy
Birmingham / Midlands – Field Based
Salary: £17 per hour (approximately £35,000 annualised) + Quarterly Bonus + Mileage

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced pharmacy professional to step into a field-based Area Manager / Operations Manager role, supporting a rapidly growing pharmacy group with an expanding estate.
The organisation currently operates 14 branches, with further acquisitions actively being pursued. This is a newly created position designed to support continued growth, with the estate being geographically divided between two Operations Managers.
You will oversee a defined portfolio of branches, taking responsibility for operational performance, commercial growth, people management, service development and overall branch profitability.
This is not a pharmacist role. The ideal candidate will have strong pharmacy sector experience, ideally with previous operational or management experience, and will be confident leading teams across multiple locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full operational responsibility for a defined portfolio of pharmacy branches.
- Drive growth in NHS prescription volumes and overall branch performance.
- Take ownership of branch targets and P&L performance.
- Oversee drug buying, pricing and purchasing processes.
- Identify and develop opportunities for new pharmacy services and revenue streams.
- Ensure existing services are delivered to the required clinical, operational and compliance standards.
- Support the continued development of testing and other enhanced pharmacy services.
- Work closely with branch teams to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
- Recruit, manage and develop branch employees.
- Handle day-to-day HR matters, including performance management and, where necessary, disciplinary processes.
- Monitor branch KPIs and take action where performance is below expectations.
- Build strong relationships with Pharmacists and branch teams across the estate.
- Anticipate operational issues and resolve problems before they impact service delivery.
- Work closely with Directors and the wider management team to support continued expansion and acquisitions.
Requirements
- Strong experience working within the pharmacy sector.
- NVQ Level 2 or ideally Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or a relevant qualification.
- Previous management or operational experience within a pharmacy environment is highly desirable.
- Strong people management and leadership skills.
- Commercially aware with an understanding of targets, performance and profitability.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Confident managing multiple branches and competing priorities.
- Ability to build effective relationships while maintaining appropriate management boundaries.
- Strong judgement, with the ability to know when to challenge and when to take a more supportive approach.
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Comfortable working in a field-based role with regular travel across multiple branches.
- Pharmacist qualification is not required.
