Description

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Responsible for leading the preconstruction and estimating teams through the coordination of bidding procedures and processes, bid accuracy and technical compliance. Responsible for preconstruction planning and coordination of project transition from estimating to project operational team for all projects that have been awarded to the company. Facilitates a streamlined and seamless hand off between the preconstruction and construction management phases; to include coordination, arrangement, development, setup and management of subcontracts, suppliers, vendors, engineers, and client contract negotiation. Responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving all Preconstruction processes and systems within the company.

 

STEP INTO THE ROLE

  • Displays personal and professional ethics and complies with and enforces company policies and procedures during project estimates, including utilizing company estimating software, performing bid reviews, etc. Takes personal responsibility to ensure that a quality bid has been produced. 
  •  Develops department strategy and vision with regularly reporting of relevant industry precedents and procedures.
  • Advises and supports the Manager of Estimating with estimate planning in preparation for project pre-bid meeting, schedule creation, and proposal preparation. 
  • Supports the Director of preconstruction and Vice President, to develop major project review document for Executive approval(s).
  • Supervises and provides development of subordinates through mentoring, formal training and exposure to diverse work experiences.
  • Ensures the estimating team(s) pursuit, selection and utilization of subcontractors who meet corporate risk management criteria.
  • Supports the estimating team in conducting project site visits, reviews cost/production reports in order to compare actual cost, plan the estimate and conduct special studies to develop and establish standard cost data.
  • Reviews and understands proposal specifications and drawings to support Manager, Estimating in determining scope of work, required contents of estimate and critical tasks to complete the project.
  • Supports the engineering team to determine the best design solutions based on cost, materials, etc.  Ensures accurate calculations of statistical data necessary for bid: quantity take-offs, materials, labor, equipment, and specialty items.
  • Supports the estimating team(s) to develop detailed risk contingency analysis and utilize in determination of project gross margin and corporate cash flows.  Maintain files of working documents to support estimate, including supplier prices, price lists, etc.
  • Participates in business development through enhancement of existing client relationships and fostering new client relationships. Develops and maintains good working relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors and co-workers to strengthen company position, resolve issues, solicit business and formulate estimates. Represents the company in a professional manner.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction related discipline required.
  • 5 or more years of applicable preconstruction and/or construction experience or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience in estimating, project management, contract negotiations and sound construction methods; with an emphasis on safety and quality.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction market, estimating strategies, estimating techniques, cost control, and proper scheduling of purchases and work.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, cost coding systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills – HCSS Heavy Bid preferred.
  • Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure.
  • Ability to mentor and support Estimating team and provide project management support.
  • Some travel is required.

$121,680.00 - $176,436.00 Individual Compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
