Staff Accountant

Genomic Life is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our team! The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing and maintaining financial records, overseeing accounts payable and receivable, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing processes. Reporting to the Head of Finance and Accounting, this person helps analyze financial data, create reports, and support audits. Other responsibilities include performing bank reconciliations, preparing financial statements, assisting with tax compliance, and ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger.

Hours: M-F 8-5 pm

Location: San Diego, CA (Hybrid)

Salary Range: $70-95k

Responsibilities:

• Manage the accounts receivable process, including invoicing, cash applications, and account reconciliations.
• Monitor AR performance, days sales outstanding and aging trends
• Perform customer account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Conduct collections activities and follow up with customers regarding past-due balances.
• Communicate professionally with customers regarding invoices, payments, and account issues.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to establish and maintain customer billing accounts, ensuring accurate setup and invoicing new client implementations.
• Maintain accurate records of collection activities and payment commitments.
• Process vendor invoices and ensure accurate coding and approvals.
• Review invoices for accuracy, proper documentation, appropriate account classification and payment batches.
• Prepare and process vendor payments.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate accounts payable records and supporting documentation.
• Process Concur expense reports.
• Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries.
• Maintain accurate general ledger accounts.
• Perform account reconciliations and investigate unusual or outstanding items.
• Ensure transactions are properly recorded in accordance with company accounting policies.
• Assist with and take ownership of assigned portions of the monthly close process.
• Prepare month-end journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Reconcile bank, credit card, AR, AP, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial reporting.
• Help ensure the month-end close is completed accurately and on schedule.
• Assist with financial reporting and accounting analysis as needed.
• Maintain organized and accurate accounting records.
• Support audits and provide requested documentation.
• Identify process improvements that increase accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications:

• 4 or more years of experience in an accounting role.
• Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting or finance.
• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy required.
• Proficient computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Outlook, Excel (Advanced skills) and MS office.
• Ability to effectively work on spreadsheets, word processing, networking, and e-mail programs.
• Comfortable meeting deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Financial ERP experience & Salesforce experience highly preferred.
• Compliance with GAAP and IRS regulations.
• Ability to work on a hybrid basis in San Diego, CA.
