The pay range is $168,000.00 - $303,000.00

Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and in some instances may include education, work experience and certifications. Within the Law Department, the Real Estate Law team provides transactional support, legal advice, and strategic direction on a wide variety of matters that support Target's real estate strategies and operations.  As Director – Real Estate Counsel, your work will include:

• Negotiation and drafting for a wide variety of real estate transactions in support of Target’s extensive existing store portfolio and new store growth initiatives, including leasing (ground and building leases), purchase and sale agreements, operating and easement agreements, and development agreements; 

• Representing Target’s interests externally with developers, landlords, co-tenants, governmental authorities and other third parties;

• Collaborating closely with experienced paralegal team to drive efficient title review and closing processes for each real estate transaction;  

• Providing general legal support, advice and training to business partners related to transaction structuring and strategy, contract disputes, process improvements and other matters impacting Target’s real estate portfolio;

• Retaining and managing outside counsel;

• Establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with a broad set of internal and external stakeholders.

About You:

·       J.D. degree from accredited law school and admitted or eligible for admission to Minnesota bar

·       5+ years of experience as a commercial real estate attorney with a strong emphasis on transactional work described above (retail real estate experience a plus, but not required)

·       Excellent analysis and negotiation skills with the ability to balance legal risks with business imperatives

·       Comfortable with ambiguity and excited about learning about new business priorities and programs

·       Highly organized, with the ability to adapt, prioritize and successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and client relationships in response to changing or competing priorities

·       Ability to establish rapport and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders

·       Strong writing skills and the ability to develop effective written and verbal communications and presentations for all levels of leadership

·       Flexible, strong team player, with the ability to collaborate effectively with peers to allocate work and respond to business needs

·       Proficiency with the Microsoft 365 suite of business applications and demonstrated interest in using generative AI tools, such as CoPilot and Harvey, to improve the quality and efficiency of legal work

 

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
