Job Description

The Manager, Configuration leads X-energy's configuration management function, responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and traceability of the organization's engineering and product baselines. This role directs a team of configuration management professionals, setting priorities, allocating workload, and ensuring disciplined change control, accurate configuration status accounting, and full traceability across hardware and software baselines. The CM Manager partners closely with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality to enable disciplined change management and timely product delivery.

 

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:

• Team Supervision & Leadership: Lead and develop a team of Configuration Engineers/Analysts, including workload planning, performance management, mentoring, skills development, and ensuring the team meets configuration management commitments across all active projects.
• Workload & Staffing Allocation: Assign and balance configuration management workload across team members and projects, matching skill sets to task complexity and identify staffing gaps or additional hiring needs to support organizational demand.
• Change Control Oversight: Direct the team's review and management of proposed changes to hardware and software, ensuring all updates are properly evaluated, approved, documented, and incorporated into the controlled configuration baseline.
• Configuration Status Accounting: Oversee the maintenance of configuration status accounting records, including the master list of parts, versions, and revisions, ensuring released and built configurations remain aligned with approved engineering documentation.
• Configuration Source of Truth Ownership: Own the establishment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the configuration source of truth across multiple projects, directing the team's efforts to resolve inconsistencies and standardize controlled records.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as the primary point of accountability connecting engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions, ensuring all teams operate from the correct, current, and approved design information.
• Traceability Program Oversight: Direct part traceability efforts, including serial number and lot number tracking, to ensure complete component identification and lifecycle traceability across products and projects.
• Change Impact Governance: Ensure the team evaluates the impact of proposed changes on downstream documentation, manufacturing readiness, quality records, and configuration integrity, and personally resolve the most complex or high-consequence impact assessments.
• Audit & Assessment Leadership: Lead configuration audits, status reviews, and internal assessments, ensuring accurate records, identifying gaps, and driving resolution of discrepancies to closure.
• Tools & Process Improvement: Direct the development, implementation, and refinement of digital tools, databases, and workflow processes that improve the efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility of configuration data.
• Configuration Practice Strategy: Identify and champion opportunities to strengthen configuration management practices organization-wide, reduce manual effort, and improve visibility into design, build, and release status.
• Performance Management: Set goals, conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and manage the performance of direct reports, recognizing strong performance and addressing performance gaps promptly and constructively.
• Career Development & Mentoring: Mentor and develop configuration management team members, establishing individual development plans, supporting training and certification, and building bench strength and succession within the team.
• Technical Guidance & Escalation: Serve as the escalation point for complex configuration issues, providing technical guidance on configuration requirements, records management, and traceability expectations to project teams and functional partners.
• Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of engineering, product configuration, and project execution needs.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
• Typically requires 15+ years of progressive experience in configuration management, engineering change control, document control, product data management, or a related technical discipline, including prior people-management, supervisory, or team-lead experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a team of configuration management, engineering change control, or document control professionals.
• Demonstrated experience managing configuration records, engineering changes, and traceability data in a complex technical environment.
• Proficiency with or Hands-on experience with PLM/PDM tools (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill), associated ERP/MRP systems and workflow configuration.
• Strong understanding of configuration management principles, including baselines, change control, status accounting, and traceability.
• Experience reviewing technical data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency across engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions.
• Ability to interpret and reconcile historical configuration information across multiple projects or product lines.
• Experience working in highly regulated or controlled environments, preferably within nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy, or advanced manufacturing industries.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a schedule-driven environment.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of material (BOMs)
• Ensure accurate and current configuration data in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) / Product Data Management (PDM) tools (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill) and related systems Enterprise Resource Planning /Material Resource Planning (ERP/MRP) to include Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) parts as applicable.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using digital tools, databases, or enterprise systems to manage configuration data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders, including leadership.

Work Site Expectations: 4-5 days in office
Travel Expectations: Up to 10% as needed for project assignment
Hours: Standard office hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm ET, Monday - Friday

Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them. Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions. Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives.

 

Offers within the posted salary range are commensurate with the individual’s qualifications for the position, along with a view on internal equity, market data, and room for growth. The salary range for this position is:

$162,500 - $185,000
