Description

About MX

MX is one of the largest and most experienced independent B2B agencies in the country. We consistently receive awards for both our work and our company culture, including being named one of the Best and Brightest in the Nation for three consecutive years and becoming the first B2B agency to win an Effie. We help our clients achieve their growth ambitions by developing Brand, Demand, Digital and Content Solutions specific to their business needs. Our mission is to impact the marketplace for companies that impact the world, recognizing that we are a growth partner to the brands we serve.

Position Summary

The SVP of Client Services is a growth-driving, marketing-forward leader who owns the Client Services function and serves as the senior client voice across the MX portfolio. This person leads from altitude, carrying a limited set of core accounts while spending the majority of their time growing the book, developing the team, and raising the standard of marketing thinking we bring clients. They hold a seat on the Executive Leadership Team, partner closely with the CEO and agency leaders, and bring an optimistic, high-energy, collaborative presence that lifts the people and the work around them. This is a highly visible role for a leader who pairs deep marketing expertise with the commercial judgment, people development, and relentless focus on organic growth needed to take the agency's client organization to its next stage.

Key Responsibilities

Driving Growth Through Marketing Excellence

  • Own client satisfaction, retention, and organic growth across the portfolio, deepening engagements and expanding scope by making current client programs successful.
  • Serve as the agency's marketing standard-bearer and a student of B2B marketing, bringing a current, substantive point of view on strategy, demand generation, brand, and digital to clients and teams.
  • Lead program and marketing-plan design, ensuring recommendations are data-driven, outcome-oriented, and tied to client business results so strong work earns account growth.
  • Support new business as the downstream benefit of that work, contributing to pitches and proposals and the smooth transition of new clients into active engagements.

Team and Talent Development

  • Lead and develop the Client Services team across all levels, setting clear expectations, growth paths, and performance standards.
  • Recruit, coach, and mentor talent, building strategic marketing capability, bench strength, and succession depth across the team, and assess performance objectively so a promotable bench emerges.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, curiosity, creativity, and ownership.

Executive Leadership and Commercial Ownership

  • Hold a seat on the Executive Leadership Team, ensuring client realities inform company direction and priorities alongside the CEO and agency leaders.
  • Own the Client Services revenue projection and growth target, set margin expectations, contribute to forecasting and pricing discipline, and cascade goals into MDs' annual plans.
  • Report on Client Services metrics, revenue achievement, organic growth, retention, utilization, margin, and team performance, to the CEO and leadership team.

Relationship Development

  • Build trusted relationships with the team, across the agency, and with clients, since relationships are the mechanism of growth.
  • Act as senior counsel and escalation point on the agency's most complex and highest-value client relationships.
  • Partner across disciplines, Creative, Strategy, Digital, Content, and Media, to pull through the integrated work clients need.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first year, the SVP of Client Services has built strong relationships across the client portfolio and the agency, established a clear leadership structure and growth path for the Client Services team, taken a visible seat on the Executive Leadership Team, and become a trusted strategic partner to the CEO, with measurable progress on organic account growth, client retention, and team development.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years in client services, account leadership, and business development with required experience at a B2B marketing, advertising, or technology agency.
  • Demonstrated success growing a portfolio of client relationships, including expanding scope and revenue within existing accounts.
  • Proven people leadership, including managing managers and building teams across levels of seniority.
  • Deep marketing expertise across strategy, brand, demand generation, content, media and digital, with the credibility to be a strategic partner to clients and internal teams.
  • Sound commercial judgment, with experience in forecasting, resourcing, and profitability.
  • Executive presence and strong communication skills, with the collaborative instincts to partner effectively with the CEO and agency leaders.
  • An optimistic, high-energy leader with a strong work ethic and a creative, curious approach to work.
  • B2B marketing agency experience required, with familiarity managing complex sales cycles and multi-channel go-to-market programs.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work onsite at our Burr Ridge office at least three days per week, with additional in-office presence as client and agency business needs require. Excited to be a visible, engaged, and accessible in-office leader who fosters collaboration and team connection.

This is an executive-level opportunity offering a highly competitive compensation package, including a significant base salary and performance-based variable compensation.
