Are you an experienced Multi Maintenance Operative ready to put your skills to work preparing homes for new customers?

Join our Empty Homes team and work alongside our skilled trade colleagues who take pride in carrying out repairs and improvements to prepare homes for new customers. We have immediate fixed-term opportunities available, starting in November 2026 and running until March 2027, potentially extended up to 12 months in total.

As a Multi Maintenance Operative (MMO) at Genoo, you’ll undertake a range of work, including general building maintenance duties including joinery, plastering, tiling, decorating, bricklaying, plumbing, fencing, flooring and roofing and damp and mould wash downs helping to prepare homes across Sunderland for a new start.

You’ll use your strong communication skills to work closely with customers, colleagues and wider teams, helping to give every customer a positive experience. If you take pride in your work and enjoy delivering great service, we’d love to hear from you.

Enjoy a 36-hour working week, Monday to Friday, with an early finish on Fridays and a great work-life balance. A full UK driving licence and a basic DBS check (arranged and funded by Gentoo) are required for this position

 

What you will be doing:

Use your multi-skilled experience to carry out a range of general building maintenance, including joinery, plastering, tiling, decorating, bricklaying, plumbing, fencing, flooring, roofing, and damp and mould washdowns.

Take pride in completing repairs and maintenance efficiently, on time and to a high standard.

Plan ahead so you have the right parts and materials to complete every job.

Use handheld technology to receive work, provide updates and keep job information accurate.

Help keep yourself, your colleagues and our customers safe by following risk assessments, method statements, product guidance and COSHH requirements.

Keep your Repairs Manager or Supervisor updated on progress, completed work and anything that may cause a delay.

Work closely with colleagues from other trades to coordinate jobs and help keep work moving.

Make sure your work meets all legal requirements and Gentoo Group standards.

Put our customers at the heart of your work by following Gentoo Group’s Customer Care Policy and Code of Conduct.

Use the right access equipment safely when working at height or in confined spaces.

Drive a Gentoo vehicle safely between customers’ homes and other sites as needed.

Leave every work area clean, tidy and safe throughout and after each job.

Take responsibility for your vehicle stock, keeping records accurate and arranging replenishment when needed.

Support your colleagues and the wider team with other duties appropriate to the role when needed.

What you will bring:

A full UK driving licence.

Demonstrable experience of completing minor repairs across a range of trades.

A broad range of multi-maintenance skills and the confidence to tackle different types of repairs.

 

A good understanding of relevant health and safety requirements and how to apply them at work.

A commitment to providing a great service in a customer-facing role.

Confidence using a handheld device to receive work and provide accurate updates.

Practical experience of repairing doors, windows, kitchens and other fixtures around the home.

The ability to work safely at height when required.

An organised approach to managing materials and vehicle stock effectively.

The confidence to plan and complete your work with minimal supervision.

Flexibility to work additional hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, when needed.

A responsive approach that puts the needs of our customers first.

A positive, team-focused approach and the initiative to keep work moving.
