Manager Procurement - Energy

Job Details:

The Manager Procurement will report to the Sr Manager Procurement and play a key role in executing the company’s energy procurement and risk management strategy. This position is primarily responsible for natural gas purchasing and basis hedging and will also support power and diesel purchasing as needed.

This role combines commodity market execution, analytical rigor, supplier management, and close partnership with plant teams to ensure a reliable, cost-effective energy supply and drive operational efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities

• Execute natural gas purchasing strategies for assigned facilities, balancing cost, supply reliability, operational requirements, and risk parameters.
• Evaluate and execute basis hedging strategies in accordance with approved policies.
• Monitor natural gas fundamentals, pipeline conditions, regional basis markets, regulatory developments, and other market drivers, and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
• Maintain accurate commodity positions, forecasts, contracts, confirmations, invoices, and management reporting.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with suppliers, utilities, pipelines, consultants, and internal business partners.
• Communicate market conditions, purchasing recommendations, risks, project status, and financial impacts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ensure activities comply with company policies, internal controls, contractual obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Respond promptly during supply interruptions, pipeline constraints, severe weather events, and other time-sensitive energy disruptions. Coordinate with plants, suppliers, pipelines, utilities, and leadership to evaluate options, communicate impacts, and support continuity of operations.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support power and diesel purchasing, market analysis, sourcing events, contract administration, and related reporting as business needs require.
• Partner directly with plant leadership, engineering, finance, accounting, legal, and operations teams to address supply, consumption, billing, and contract issues.
• Lead on-site efficiency projects from opportunity identification through implementation and performance validation. This includes developing business cases, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, establishing project plans and milestones, tracking execution, and measuring realized energy, cost, and operational benefits.
• Build analytical models, dashboards, and automated workflows using Microsoft Excel, artificial intelligence, and other digital tools to improve forecasting, reporting, and decision quality.
• Identify process gaps, investigate root causes, and implement practical solutions in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree preferred in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, category management, commodity purchasing, energy procurement, risk management, supply chain, packaging operations, or related business functions.
• Experience leading supplier negotiations, sourcing events, and contract management activities.
• Experience managing supplier relationships and delivering cost savings initiatives.
• Experience with energy markets, commodity purchasing, natural gas procurement, physical supply management, or basis hedging is strongly preferred.
• Experience managing cross-functional projects and business partnerships.

Computer Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, modeling, and reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience utilizing AI-enabled tools and digital technologies to improve decision-making and efficiency.
• Experience with SAP, procurement systems, commodity trading and risk management platforms, data visualization, and workflow automation tools preferred.

Communication Skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate complex market, financial, and operational concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• No direct reports.

Travel

• Approximately 10–20% travel, including visits to company facilities, supplier locations, and industry events.
