Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist specializing in Medical Retina and Uveitis to join a leading tertiary ophthalmology service in Dubai. The successful candidate will provide expert diagnosis and management of complex retinal and inflammatory eye disorders, deliver evidence-based patient care, and contribute to clinical excellence, teaching, research, and service development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive consultation, diagnosis and treatment for medical retinal and uveitic disorders.
- Manage diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, macular disorders and other retinal conditions.
- Diagnose and manage anterior, intermediate, posterior and panuveitis, including infectious and non-infectious uveitis.
- Assess and manage ocular manifestations of systemic autoimmune, inflammatory and infectious diseases.
- Perform and interpret OCT, OCT-A, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, B-scan ultrasonography and other retinal investigations.
- Perform intravitreal injections and other office-based retinal procedures within approved clinical privileges.
- Develop individualized treatment plans using anti-VEGF, steroid and other appropriate therapies.
- Coordinate systemic investigations and treatment with rheumatology, internal medicine, infectious disease and other relevant specialties.
- Provide second opinions and multidisciplinary consultation for complex ophthalmic cases.
- Monitor treatment response and long-term disease progression.
- Counsel patients regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options, risks and expected outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive electronic medical records.
- Participate in clinical governance, audits, quality improvement and patient-safety initiatives.
- Contribute to CME/CPD, teaching, mentoring and training of junior ophthalmologists and clinical staff.
- Participate in research and development of evidence-based ophthalmology protocols.
- Comply with DHA regulations, UAE healthcare legislation, infection-control standards and institutional policies.
Essential Qualifications
- MBBS/MBChB or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution.
- Recognized postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology.
- Recognized Tier 1 subspecialty qualification/fellowship in Medical Retina, Vitreo-Retina and/or Uveitis/Ocular Immunology.
- Eligible for or holding a DHA Consultant Ophthalmologist license.
- Meets current UAE/DHA Professional Qualification Requirements for Consultant licensure. Dubai Health Authority
- Relevant post-qualification clinical experience in Medical Retina and Uveitis.
- Current BLS certification, where required.
Preferred Experience
- Strong experience in intravitreal therapy and retinal disease management.
- Expertise in complex uveitis and ocular inflammatory disease.
- Experience with biologic/immunomodulatory therapy and multidisciplinary management of systemic inflammatory disease.
- Experience in a tertiary hospital, academic medical center or specialist eye institute.
- Publications, clinical research, teaching or conference presentations are desirable.
