Description
Position Summary
This position is responsible for daily Safe Haven operations including maintaining timely and accurate logs; meal preparation and delivery; crisis intervention; conducting Safe Haven activities; ensuring safety and integrity of Safe Haven space.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management
- Know and comply with policies and procedures of Deborah's Place and the Safe
- Coordinate the scheduling and training of Safe Haven
- Communicate directly and effectively concerns and observations to internal and externalservice providers.
- Communicate directly and effectively with other Safe Haven staff and
- Ensure program safety, security, cleanliness and integrity of the building during designated hours.
Food Service
- Prepare and serve meals.
- Ensure the proper ordering, stocking and storage of goods.
- Coordinate distribution and storage of donated foods, including pick-ups, produce and Greater Chicago Food Depository.
- Solicit food donations and foster positive relationships with food donors.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and food service area as well as maintain organized pantries, refrigerators and freezers.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Licensure and/or Certification: Food Handling and Sanitation Certification within six months of employment. First Aid/CPR preferred.
Job Experience: 2-3 years residential program experience; 2-3 years working with people with mental illness, substance abuse and/or both
Special Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of issues surrounding homelessness, mental illness and chemical dependency and MISA issues; proficiency in Microsoft Office software, effective oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, conflict management and crisis intervention skills; ability to communicate effectively with case management, staff, psychiatrist and other providers around mental health and medical issues; demonstrate clear and professional boundaries; act in a professional manner; Valid Illinois driver's license, proof of insurance and own vehicle preferred.
