Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), the Health Physics Tech collaborates with the Health Physics Specialist to conduct radiological surveys and audits of laboratories that use radioactive materials. Responsibilities include performing sealed source leak testing, maintaining accurate inventory records, and supporting the radioactive waste program by processing waste on scheduled waste days.
Additionally, this position ensures compliance by updating records in the Campus Optics database. Other duties include distributing and collecting dosimetry, performing routine laser inspections, occasionally assisting with in-person trainings, shipping/receiving RAM packages and providing general support to the radiation safety program as needed. This position is responsible for responding to emergencies including after hours (not common).
Work Interactions
Position interacts with various GU staff members and vendors. Works closely with laboratory staff who work with Radioactive Materials in the research environment.
Requirements and Qualifications
B.S. degree in Chemistry, Life Science or relevant field preferred, or a HS diploma with a minimum of 2 years’ relative work experience required.
Prior experience with research laboratories is preferred. Minimum of one year experience with radioactive materials preferably in an academic medical center is desired. Knowledge of various types of instrumentation routinely used in radiological testing preferred.

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$47,586.00 - $87,558.13Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
