Job Description


Purpose:

The Postdoctoral Researcher will perform research on the experimental measurement and analysis of dissolution/precipitation kinetics of cementitious components and the rheological properties, reaction rates, and mechanical property development of novel materials for 3D printing of cementitious materials. Requires theoretical knowledge of the thermodynamics and kinetics of phase transformations. Knowledge of inorganic chemistry, especially cement chemistry, is strongly preferred, as well as a background in experimental thermal methods, rheological metrology, and microscopy. An emphasis on publication of research results and development of new ideas for research funding. Also involves responsibility for care and oversight of lab operations, including guiding graduate and undergraduate students in their research.


Responsibilities


  • Primary: Perform measurements of kinetic and thermodynamic properties of components of cementitious materials.
  • Primary: Perform measurements and design mixtures for novel concrete 3D printing applications.
  • Primary: Write and publish journal articles based on the results of completed studies related to the projects.
  • Primary: Assist with the development of grant proposals based on the findings of current projects.
  • Secondary: Mentor graduate students performing experimental research on cement hydration, carbonation, cold sintering, and materials characterization.
  • Secondary: Oversee maintenance of laboratory, including care of instrumentation, materials inventory, and safety protocols.
