1. DESCRIPTION:
1.1. Performs day to day activities within the QC microbiology laboratory.
2. REPORTS TO:
2.1. Microbiology Lab Supervisor
3. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1. Comply with all laboratory safety procedures.
3.2. Review microbiology results and lab notebooks prior to data release.
3.3. Perform microbiological sampling and testing.
3.4. Write and review documents needed for laboratory operations, such as standard operating procedures (SOPs), methods, change control requests, etc.
3.5. Train employees on microbiology testing methods.
3.6. Help develop and validate new methods and equipment for testing and perform qualifications when needed.
3.7. Participate in all continuous improvement activities.
3.8. Follow all current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
3.9. Remain current on all required lab trainings.
3.10. Perform lab cleaning, maintenance, and minor troubleshooting.
3.11. Ensure all lab equipment is within calibration and has been verified before use.
3.12. Prepare lab documentation in accordance with current Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
3.13. Comply with FDA, TGA, ISO, cGxP, USP, and other requirements.
3.14. Monitor inventory and prepare orders for supplies and equipment when needed.
3.15. Maintain and organize Safety Data Sheets as needed.
3.16. Participate in internal and regulatory inspections and audits when needed.
3.17. Provide guidance and support to the microbiology technicians when needed.
3.18. Maintain positive relationships in the workplace by treating others with respect, dignity, and integrity.
3.19. Prioritize and plan tasks to achieve daily workload.
3.20. Must be available for ad hoc meetings, calls, or questions during business hours.
3.21. Other related duties as assigned.
4. JOB QUALIFICATIONS
4.1. Education and Experience:
4.1.1. Bachelor’s degree in science related field.
4.1.2. 0-1 + years progressively responsible work experience.
4.2. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
4.2.1. Knowledge of cGxP, USP, FDA, ISO, TGA, etc. regulations with emphasis in dietary supplement, food, and cosmetic regulations.
4.2.2. Advanced mathematical skills, deductive reasoning skills, and organizational skills.
4.2.3. Proficiency in Microsoft office, basic computer programs, and laboratory software.
4.2.4. Ability to communicate in a timely manner by reading, writing, and speaking in English, including in person real-time communication.
4.2.5. Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks to achieve daily workload.
4.2.6. Willingness and ability to train and mentor junior employees.
4.2.7. Knowledge of laboratory techniques and practices.
4.2.8. Ability to traverse varying distances and travel between different floors of the building. Traveling between buildings (outside) may be required occasionally.
4.2.9. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
4.2.10. Must be able to elevate and/or move up to 40 pounds, with assistance.
4.2.11. Must be able to work in close proximity to products with strong aromas.
4.2.12. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment for extended periods of time, including but not limited to close toed shoes, lab coats, safety glasses/goggles, and nitrile/latex gloves.
4.2.13. Ability to manipulate small objects such as bottle lids, small hand tools, etc.
4.2.14. Must work well in a team environment.
4.2.15. Project management and problem solving skills.
4.2.16. Basic knowledge of chemical and solution handling
