Job Summary

The Sr Staff Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for design ing, building, securing, and modernizing the technology environments that support reliable, scalable, and efficient enterprise operations. They apply expertise across cloud, hybrid, and on -prem

infrastructure, automation, infrastructure as code, resiliency, observability, and operational excelle nce to improve platform performance, reduce risk, and enable faster, more consistent delivery. They partner across engineerin g, security,

architecture, operations, and business teams to ensure infrastructure services are stable, cost -aware, compliant, and aligned to evolving business and technology needs.

Span and Responsibility

•Owns the technical direction, design integrity,

and operational outcomes for highly complex

infrastructure capabilities that span multiple

platforms, services, teams, or technology

domains, while operating as a senior individual

contributor with no direct reports.

•Leads cross -functional virtual squads or

technical workstreams across Infrastructure,

Security, and Architecture, to deliver

enterprise -critical outcomes.

•Serves as a recognized subject matter expert

across one or more infrastructure domains,

shaping platform direction, engineering

standards, reusable patterns, and operating

practices beyond a single team.

•Defines, designs, and advances scalable

infrastructure platforms, shared services,

automation frameworks, observability,

resiliency patterns, integrations, and

operational controls across hybrid

on-premises and cloud environments.

•Owns design choices for AI -enabled , AIOps, or

agentic infrastructure capabilities when

requirements are broad, standards are

evolving, or cross -domain trade -offs are

required.

•Modernizes infrastructure services,

automation, configurations, runbooks,

deployment patterns, and operational

workflows to improve scalability, resiliency,

security, performance, cost efficiency, and

long -term supportability.

•Establishes reusable playbooks, automation

patterns, validation practices, and

documentation standards that enable other

engineers and teams to execute consistently

and safely.

Technical Qualifications

•8–10 years of applicable software engineering

experience.

•Expert proficiency in one or more modern

programming languages (Java, C#/.NET,

Python, JavaScript/TypeScript).

•Strong full -stack expertise (front end

frameworks, APIs, back -end services).

•Deep experience with automated testing,

CI/CD, and AIOps practices.

•Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS,

Azure, GCP), containers, and distributed

systems.

•Advanced understanding of secure coding,

vulnerability remediation, and data

protection.

•Proven experience with agentic AI

architectures, LLM prompting, and human -AI

interaction design.

•Hands -on use of AI-assisted development

tools to improve engineering productivity.

•Strong awareness of AI -driven security risks

and responsible AI practices.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$137,200 - $205,800
