Job Description:
The Gift Compliance Officer ensures that donors have a positive experience when philanthropically supporting Brown University. Their primary goal is to lay the groundwork for meaningful, long-term stewardship from the very beginning by facilitating the development of accurate and consistent gift documentation. The Officer plays a key role in gift agreement development, review, and approval process. Their primary responsibility is to evaluate fundraiser requests in order to guide development of appropriate documentation and to prepare agreements for review and final approval. This entails verifying that gift agreements capture donor intent and align with University policies and administrative practices. The Officer also provides basic coaching and training for fundraisers and Advancement staff, including the development and maintenance of policy, process, and protocol documentation. In addition, they enter and maintain all relevant information in a variety of tracking systems to ensure that information is correct and actionable.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field such as fundraising, higher education, nonprofits, sales, customer service, and/or grant management.
Job Competencies
- Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to initiate, collaborate, implement, monitor, evaluate, and support strategic plans.
- Strong attention to detail, especially in writing, with respect to names, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Must be comfortable learning and using technology, both new and existing (e.g. ClickUp, Confluence, MS Office, Google Apps, Gemini, NotebookLM, collaboration software, etc.)
- Must be proficient with managing data and data analysis.
- Ability to work independently and to manage highly complex processes for a high-quality end product.
- Ability to problem solve, to communicate effectively and professionally, to work well under deadlines, and to collaborate in a team environment.
- Proven ability to analyze data, research information, problem-solve, and coordinate projects.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment with emphasis on accuracy and deadline adherence. Ability to effectively and efficiently multitask and prioritize workload.
- Excellent written and oral communication, including ability to copy-edit and proofread.
- Personal tact, perseverance, and follow-through are critical interpersonal skills in this position.
- Ability to apply tact and maintain confidentiality. Customer-focused, customer service orientation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using AI-powered tools to support proposal writing, build presentations, or enhance administrative workflows.
- Experience working with customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
- Experience with DocuSign, Google Docs, and document management software.
- Experience with task and project management.
