Lead the development of a progressive deer operation, on one of New Zealand’s largest and most progressive farms

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an opportunity to step into an important leadership role where you can make a real contribution to the development of a large-scale farming operation. You'll have the chance to bring your experience, share ideas and help shape the future of the deer system.

You'll be responsible for approximately 1,400ha of a 7,821ha effective grazing platform, with a focus on the deer breeding programme and velvet production, while also contributing to the wider livestock operation through the integration of Sheep & cattle.

Working closely with the Farm Business Manager, and wider leadership team; you'll help deliver strong farm performance, support and develop others, and look for opportunities to improve the way things are done.

At Pāmu, we value people, animals and the environment. We’re looking for someone who shares these values, enjoys working with others and takes pride in creating a positive, supportive team environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

You'll enjoy a varied role that combines practical farming, people leadership and opportunities to contribute to the ongoing development of the deer block.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the deer operation, including breeding and velvet production.
  • Operational oversite for the Deer block within the Station.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve farm performance, systems and day-to-day processes
  • Working alongside the team to support and deliver farming operations
  • Using Farmax, FarmIQ and other systems to manage farm information and support decision-making
  • Maintaining accurate stock records and ensuring reporting is completed in a timely manner

ABOUT YOU

You’ll bring:

  • Experience in livestock management, ideally with experience in deer farming
  • A collaborative approach to working with, and developing others.
  • An understanding of feed budgeting and farm business planning, or a willingness to build these skills
  • Confidence using farm technology and data to support farm management
  • A capable team of working dogs and a current NZ driver’s licence
  • A commitment to high standards of quality, safety, and animal welfare

We’re proud to have a supportive and inclusive culture at Pāmu. If this role sounds like a good fit for you, but you don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.

The operation includes:

  • 10,000 breeding ewes and replacements, plus lamb trading.
  • A growing velvet operation, currently running 1,200 MA Stags , 800 hinds + progeny.
