Description
Centroid Systems is seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Oracle Engineered Systems / Database Administrator to deliver ongoing Managed Services support for mission-critical database environments built on Oracle Exadata and related engineered systems. This role will be part of a small team of senior engineers responsible for continuously automating, improving, and operationalizing Oracle and Centroid best practices for managing and maintaining Oracle Engineered Systems. This position is responsible for maintaining service availability, performance, security, operational compliance, and customer service levels through proactive monitoring, incident response, request fulfillment, problem management, change execution, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle support.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and administer Oracle Exadata Database Machines and engineered systems infrastructure in a hands-on technical capacity.
- Lead coordinated patch cycles across Exadata infrastructure, including Oracle Database, Grid Infrastructure, Exadata System Software, operating system, compute, storage cells, network fabric, and firmware.
- Plan and execute approved Exadata platform upgrades and migrations within the Managed Services change-management process, including implementation planning, testing, cutover, validation, documentation, and operational handoff.
- Execute rolling and non-rolling patching strategies to minimize downtime and ensure continuous system availability.
- Implement, maintain, and adhere to required security and regulatory compliance standards across Exadata environments, including maintaining compliance throughout patching, upgrades, migrations, and configuration changes.
- Support audit readiness and compliance reporting through accurate documentation of configurations, patch levels, security controls, remediation activities, and change control evidence.
- Manage the database and engineered-systems lifecycle through established Managed Services procedures, including maintenance, consolidation, upgrades, migrations, capacity planning, and platform modernization.
- Implement and support high availability architectures using Oracle RAC, ASM, and Active Data Guard.
- Optimize system performance by leveraging Exadata capabilities such as Smart Scan and Hybrid Columnar Compression.
- Design, improve, and automate repeatable operational processes, scripts, runbooks, monitoring practices, and service delivery standards in collaboration with Centroid’s DevOps team, aligned with Oracle and Centroid best practices for Oracle Engineered Systems.
- Perform advanced SQL tuning and troubleshooting across database and infrastructure layers.
- Utilize Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) for monitoring, patch orchestration, and operational management.
- Continuously monitor service health and respond to alerts, incidents, service requests, and problems in accordance with defined priorities, service-level agreements, and escalation procedures.
- Own assigned tickets through resolution, maintain accurate and timely work notes, communicate status and risks to the customer and internal teams, and ensure proper escalation of critical issues.
- Perform structured shift handoffs and maintain current runbooks, standard operating procedures, knowledge articles, configuration records, and support documentation to enable consistent 24x7 service delivery.
- Provide technical leadership within the senior engineering team by reviewing technical approaches, promoting operational consistency, and helping establish support standards for Oracle Engineered Systems.
- Mentor junior engineers and DBAs through knowledge sharing, peer review, troubleshooting guidance, documentation best practices, and hands-on coaching during incidents, changes, patching, and upgrade activities.
- Provide infrastructure planning, capacity management, and scalability support for enterprise environments.
- Work a rotating shift schedule as part of the U.S.-based team providing 24x7 support for the customer environment, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience as an Oracle Database Administrator.
- Experience delivering Managed Services or production operations support in a ticket-driven environment with defined service levels, escalation paths, change controls, and customer communication requirements.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Oracle Exadata and Oracle Engineered Systems.
- Demonstrated experience performing Exadata patching, upgrades, and migrations.
- Deep knowledge of Oracle Database 19c and 23ai.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle RAC, ASM, and Data Guard.
- Strong skills in Unix/Linux administration and scripting using Shell or Python.
- Solid understanding of compute, storage, networking, security, and system architecture.
- Experience implementing and maintaining technical controls in compliance-driven or regulated environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, document repeatable practices, and drive continuous improvement in a Managed Services operating model.
- Ability and willingness to work assigned rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage, as required to support a 24x7 operation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Oracle certifications, such as Oracle Database or Exadata Specialist certifications.
- Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise Manager for Engineered Systems.
- Experience supporting audit evidence, security compliance reporting, and remediation activities.
