Position Title: VP, Applications and Digital HealthEmployment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Hours:Monday-FridayPractice: Prism Vision GroupLocation: Remote, 25% travel required across the practice network
Compensation: $225,000-250,000K, based on experience and qualifications
Position Summary: PRISM is scaling faster than at any point in its history — new practices joining through M&A, a deepening integration with McKesson, and rising expectations from operations and physician leadership are all landing on an applications and digital health function that hasn't historically had a senior, dedicated leader. You'll take ownership of PRISM's clinical and business application portfolio, Athena, Nextech, and SIS today, and own the strategy behind it: what the platform mix and integration architecture should look like as PRISM continues to grow, and how to get there. You'll report directly to the CIO, sit at the center of nearly every cross-functional conversation IT has with operations, physician leadership, and finance, and build the team and roadmap to make it happen. This is one of the most senior and most visible technology seats in the company.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
Own the Applications Portfolio — and Get More Value From It
- Take full ownership of PRISM's EMR and practice-management ecosystem — Athena, Nextech, and SIS — from day-to-day platform stability through the strategy behind it.
- Own the vendor relationships that matter most, driving the enhancement roadmap and holding vendors accountable for delivering the capabilities PRISM needs, not just fixing what's broken.
- Partner directly with clinical and operations leaders to find where the current platform isn't being used to its full potential, and push for creative, supportable solutions when the vendor doesn't have an out-of-the-box answer.
- Lead or participate in evaluating new solutions in the specific areas where the existing platform doesn't deliver — for example, surgical scheduling coordination — bringing a data-backed recommendation rather than defaulting to “add another tool.”
Lead Digital Health & Patient Access
- Partner with marketing to define and deliver PRISM's digital front door — online booking, check-in, and e-registration (including tools like NextPatient) — and the referral-physician CRM and data initiatives that support provider growth.
- Act as a lead collaborator on patient-access initiatives, including the modernized contact center and AI voice-agent rollout, making sure they connect cleanly into the EMR and broader application stack.
- Own strategy and vendor relationships for ancillary clinical technology, including clinical trials support platforms
Build the Team You Need
- Take ownership of an in-flight culture shift — moving the team from reactive, ticket-driven support to proactive partnership that brings ideas forward instead of waiting to be asked — and drive it the rest of the way.
- Honestly assess the current applications team — what's working, what isn't, where the gaps are — and build a team structured for where PRISM is headed, not just where it's been.
- Recruit, develop, and retain talent across EMR analysis, business systems analysis, and integration engineering, bringing in outside expertise where needed and growing it from within where possible.
- Set the operating rhythm for the team: clear ownership, escalation paths, and accountability for both day-to-day support and strategic project work.
Own the Budget
- Own the opex and capex budget for applications and digital health — people, systems, and software — in partnership with the CIO and finance.
- Build and defend the business cases behind platform, staffing, and vendor decisions, grounded in real data rather than estimates.
- Manage vendor relationships and contracts across the portfolio, holding partners accountable to committed scope, cost, and timelines.
Bring AI Into the Work
- Identify where AI and automation can measurably improve provider productivity and patient access — ambient clinical documentation among them — and build the case to get there.
- Point that same thinking inward: find where AI and automation make your own applications and analyst team faster and more effective, not just the clinical side of the house.
- Make sure every AI use case clears the governance, security, and compliance bar PRISM and McKesson require.
Partner Across the Business
- Build direct, trusted relationships with physician leadership, practice operations, and McKesson counterparts — this role is as much about influence and alignment as technical ownership.
- Participate in PRISM's physician leadership technology committee and other EMR standards governance forums, bringing the applications roadmap to physicians and bringing their input back into it.
- Partner with McKesson's growth and integration teams on the application and EMR approach for M&A integrations — shaping strategy and sequencing, not just executing what's handed off.
- Act as a thought partner to the CIO on where the applications and digital health function goes next as PRISM grows.
Qualifications
What You'll Bring
Required
- Proven senior leadership experience (VP/Director-level or equivalent scope) owning an EMR or clinical application portfolio in a healthcare or ambulatory care organization, including budget ownership for both people and systems/software.
- Deep, hands-on fluency with EMR and practice-management platforms (Athena, Nextech, SIS, or comparable specialty/enterprise systems) and the integration and data architecture connecting them.
- A track record of shaping application and platform strategy, not just running what exists — including experience evaluating platform consolidation, build-vs-buy, and long-term EMR strategy decisions.
- Experience leading digital health or patient-access initiatives (online scheduling, check-in, e-registration, referral CRM, or similar) in partnership with marketing and operations.
- Experience assessing and rebuilding a technical team, including making difficult talent calls, while keeping day-to-day operations stable.
Preferred
- Experience in ophthalmology, retina, or another single- or multi-specialty ambulatory care environment.
- Experience operating inside a matrixed parent organization, MSO, or PE-backed platform — comfortable with shared services, dotted-line reporting, and multi-tenant infrastructure.
- Direct experience piloting or scaling AI-enabled clinical or operational workflows — ambient documentation, AI voice/scheduling tools, or automation built for an internal analyst team.
- Familiarity with clinical trials technology and patient financial engagement or revenue-cycle platforms.
- Has personally built an application-strategy or platform-rationalization business case that held up under executive-level scrutiny at a fast-growing healthcare organization.
What Success Looks Like
In the first year, success looks like: a team that's been honestly assessed, restructured, and reset from reactive to proactive; real partnership with operations and physician leadership that's already surfaced — and started executing on — opportunities to get more value from the platforms PRISM has today; measurable improvement delivered through at least one or two AI or automation initiatives; a budget and vendor management approach finance trusts because it's grounded in real numbers, not guesses; and a clear, data-backed point of view on where PRISM's application and integration strategy goes next. Most importantly, this becomes the person operations and physician leadership call first when they have an idea — not last.
