Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Polysomnographic Technician, you will play a critical role in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders by conducting comprehensive sleep studies.Every day you will prepare patients for overnight sleep studies, meticulously apply and monitor physiological sensors, accurately acquire and document polysomnographic data, and ensure a comfortable and safe environment for patients throughout their study.To be successful in this role, you will possess an expert understanding of sleep study protocols, demonstrate exceptional patient care and communication skills, and exhibit meticulous attention to detail in data acquisition and analysis while adhering to the highest professional and ethical standards.
Job Requirements
Required
- Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).
- Current registration as an EEG Technician through the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) preferred.
- Current healthcare provider BLS certification required.
Education and Work Experience Requirements
- Successful completion of an American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) accepted educational program leading to an Associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography.OR
- Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed and /or nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities required.
Job Knowledge/Abilities
- Knowledge of, the function, operation and maintenance of various types of polysomnographic/EEG equipment, including electrodes and recordings.
- Knowledge of sleep disorders/EEG processes and applications, including knowledge of normal/abnormal cardio-respiratory, neurological and sleep physiology.
- Knowledge of FHS patient care standards and practices, legal issues, and general regulatory requirements applicable to procedures conducted within designated scope of authority.
- Knowledge of protocols and special procedures applicable to activities within designated scope of responsibility.
- Ability to recognize sleep pathology that requires treatment.
- Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.
