Description

Team Lead – Pet Care & Operations

Location: Webster, NY

Reports to: Resort Manager

Role Summary

Ruff Day Resort is looking for a high-energy, detail-oriented Team Lead to join our leadership team. The Team Lead is responsible for supervising daily operations on the floor, ensuring that our "safety-first" protocols are strictly followed, and mentoring our pet care technicians. You will be the "go-to" person for the staff, maintaining a positive environment while ensuring every dog in our care receives the highest quality of attention and structured engagement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Shift Supervision & Staff Mentoring

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the staff during shifts, providing clear direction and support.

  • Train and onboard new team members on facility protocols, including proper handling techniques and safety standards.

  • Model a positive, professional attitude to keep team morale high and operations running smoothly.

2. Quality of Care & Safety

  • Oversee daily care routines, including feeding, medication administration, and kennel sanitization.

  • Ensure all safety standards are met, particularly regarding crate safety and off-leash group play.

  • Monitor dog behavior closely, stepping in to manage group dynamics and ensuring all staff are using consistent communication markers with the dogs.

3. Operational Excellence

  • Assist the Manager with daily task lists, ensuring the facility remains clean, organized, and hazard-free.

  • Perform "quality checks" throughout the day to ensure all pets are comfortable, clean, and happy.

  • Help coordinate special events, such as themed daycare parties or enrichment activities.

4. Client Communication

  • Assist with check-ins and check-outs, providing detailed and professional updates to pet parents about their dog’s day.

  • Handle minor customer concerns on the floor with patience and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Experience: At least 1–2 years of experience in a professional pet care setting (daycare, boarding, or veterinary).

  • Leadership Skills: Previous experience leading a team or acting as a senior staff member is preferred.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of dog body language and safe handling techniques.

  • Professionalism: Ability to stay calm and lead by example in a fast-paced, high-activity environment.

  • Availability: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.

Why Join Ruff Day Resort?

  • Competitive Pay & Benefits: Includes health care options, retirement savings, and paid time off for full-time employees.

  • Professional Growth: We invest in our leaders through ongoing professional development and training.

  • Culture: A supportive, safety-oriented environment that values work-life balance and a shared love for animals.
