Description
Make Your Mark:
Position SummaryThe Senior Manager, Revenue Accounting & Billing will lead the Company’s end-to-end revenue accounting and billing operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant revenue recognition under U.S. GAAP and ASC 606. This leader will manage a team of five professionals and serve as a strategic partner to Sales, Deal Desk, Legal, Revenue Operations, Financial Systems, Collections, and Finance leadership.
A defining part of this role is transforming how revenue accounting and billing work gets done. The ideal candidate is a technically strong accountant who is equally energized by AI, automation, and process redesign. You will identify and deliver opportunities to reduce manual effort, strengthen controls, accelerate the close, and give the business real-time revenue insights, all while keeping the integrity of the financial statements as the first priority.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth SaaS environment, is comfortable challenging “the way it’s always been done,” and can balance innovation with the discipline required of a publicly traded company.
You'll Get To:
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of five revenue accounting and billing professionals, fostering accountability, curiosity, and continuous learning.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue close, including revenue recognition, deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, and related reconciliations.
- Own the billing process from order to invoice, including invoice accuracy, billing schedules, credit memos, amendments, renewals, usage-based billing, and proration.
- Review and approve non-standard contract terms and complex arrangements for ASC 606 treatment, partnering with Deal Desk and Legal during negotiations.
- Draft and review technical accounting memoranda for complex or non-standard transactions, new products, and pricing models.
- Design human-in-the-loop review processes so AI-assisted outputs are validated, auditable, and consistent with internal control requirements.
- Partner with Financial Systems, IT, and Revenue Operations to configure and optimize the revenue and billing stack (e.g., NetSuite, Zuora, Salesforce) and integrate automation into quote-to-cash workflows.
- Own revenue and billing-related internal controls, including design, documentation, and remediation, and ensure automated processes are properly scoped into SOX.
- Collaborate with Internal Audit and external auditors to support quarterly reviews, annual audits, and technical accounting assessments.
- Maintain revenue recognition policies and standalone selling price (SSP) support, and monitor emerging accounting guidance that may affect revenue.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to Sales, Deal Desk, Legal, Pricing, and Product on the accounting and billing implications of commercial structures.
- Lead or support special projects including new product launches, pricing changes, acquisitions, system implementations, and process transformation.
- Deliver training to cross-functional teams on revenue policies, contracting practices, and billing processes.
Experience & Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. CPA strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of combined public accounting and industry experience, with significant revenue recognition and technical accounting experience.
- Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 within SaaS, subscription, and usage-based business models.
- 3+ years of people management experience, including direct supervision of accounting professionals.
- Hands-on experience with billing and revenue systems (e.g., Zuora, NetSuite) and the end-to-end quote-to-cash process.
- Solid understanding of SOX controls and experience working with internal and external auditors.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear business insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-accounting audiences.
