Employment Type: W-2 | PRN
Hours: Weekdays, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Schedule: PRN coverage based on clinic needs. Candidates should have weekday availability Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Shift availability will vary and is not guaranteed.
Commuter Access: Convenient downtown location accessible by BART, Caltrain connections, ferry service, Muni, and Transbay buses.
About the Opportunity
An onsite employee health center located within the San Francisco offices of a leading financial services firm is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant or California Licensed Vocational Nurse with strong, current phlebotomy skills and vaccine-administration experience.
Recent hands-on venipuncture experience is required. This is not an entry-level or phlebotomy-training position, and phlebotomy training will not be provided. Candidates must currently perform blood draws regularly and be prepared to perform venipuncture confidently from their first shift, within applicable California authorization and supervision requirements.
The selected individual will be the only Medical Assistant or LVN onsite, working alongside an RN and clinical provider. The role requires someone who can step into an established outpatient clinic, work independently within scope, and support routine clinical and laboratory workflows as coverage needs arise.
What You Will Do
- Welcome and room patients, obtain vital signs, document intake information, and prepare patients for provider evaluation.
- Perform venipuncture and collect, label, process, and prepare blood, urine, and other specimens.
- Conduct point-of-care testing, perform EKGs as ordered, and accurately record results.
- Administer vaccines when qualified and authorized to do so under applicable California training, competency, authorization, and supervision requirements.
- Assist licensed providers with patient-care activities, procedures, and clinic flow within assigned scope.
- Coordinate referrals, follow-up appointments, patient instructions, and supporting documentation.
- Support patient scheduling, phone communications, insurance verification, and other routine administrative needs.
- Upload laboratory results and supporting documentation into the EHR and maintain accurate patient records.
- Maintain organized examination rooms, supplies, and clinical work areas.
- Follow established clinic workflows, patient-privacy requirements, infection-control practices, and safety procedures.
- Escalate clinical questions, patient-safety concerns, and matters outside assigned scope to the appropriate licensed clinician.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must qualify through one of the following pathways:
- Medical Assistant: Completion of Medical Assistant education or training that meets applicable California requirements, with demonstrated competency for assigned duties. A recognized credential such as CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, or another recognized Medical Assistant certification is welcomed.
- Licensed Vocational Nurse: Active and unrestricted California LVN license.
- California Certified Phlebotomy Technician: An active California CPT credential may be considered only when the candidate also has documentation demonstrating completion of the applicable injection training and hands-on competency required for vaccine administration.
Candidates must also have:
- Current and regular hands-on phlebotomy experience, including venipuncture performed in a clinical setting within the past 12 months.
- Ability to perform venipuncture confidently and proficiently from the first shift, in accordance with applicable California authorization and supervision requirements.
- Recent vaccine-administration experience and documentation supporting the applicable training and demonstrated hands-on competency.
- Active BLS/CPR certification.
- Experience in an outpatient clinic, medical office, employee health center, or comparable patient-care setting.
- Experience with patient intake, vital signs, specimen collection and handling, point-of-care testing, EKGs, referrals, and routine ambulatory clinical support.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and standard clinical workflows.
- Strong communication, organization, patient-service, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently onsite within established workflows while collaborating effectively with the clinical team.
- Reliable ability to commute to downtown San Francisco for the full scheduled shift.
Experience with patient scheduling, referral coordination, insurance verification, or medical front-office responsibilities is a plus.
