Description

Global Logistics Specialist

ICON is a global healthcare intelligence and clinical research organisation united by a mission to bring new medicines and treatments to patients faster.

As a values-driven organisation, integrity, collaboration, agility, and inclusion are at the heart of how we work and interact with each other, customers, patients and suppliers.

As a Global Logistics Specialist at ICON, you will play a key role in supporting and optimizing global logistics operations for clinical trials. You will provide logistics expertise and oversight across the movement of laboratory kits, clinical samples and other study-related materials, helping to ensure reliable, compliant and cost-effective transportation across ICON’s global network.

Working with regional logistics teams, couriers, suppliers, laboratories and internal stakeholders, you will help develop effective logistics solutions, monitor performance, resolve complex issues and drive continuous improvement across global clinical trial logistics.

What You Will Do

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide specialist logistics support and oversight across global clinical trial studies and sponsor accounts, helping ensure logistics requirements are understood, planned and implemented effectively.
  • Support study start-up activities, including logistics requirement gathering, courier selection and setup, shipping-process design and development of appropriate logistics strategies.
  • Provide expertise relating to the transportation of clinical samples, laboratory kits and other study-related materials across domestic and international markets.
  • Support complex import/export and customs requirements, working with regional teams, couriers, customs brokers and other stakeholders to facilitate compliant movement of clinical trial materials.
  • Monitor courier and logistics performance, service levels and operational trends to identify risks, recurring issues and opportunities to improve quality, service and cost.
  • Act as a logistics subject matter expert, supporting the resolution and escalation of complex transportation, courier, customs and operational issues.
  • Build effective relationships with couriers, logistics providers, laboratories and internal stakeholders to ensure logistics solutions meet operational and study requirements.
  • Use logistics data and performance metrics to identify trends, support root-cause analysis and develop practical, data-driven recommendations.
  • Support sponsor inquiries, operational reviews and client discussions relating to logistics capabilities, performance and study-specific requirements.
  • Drive and support logistics process improvements, standardization and global initiatives designed to improve service, quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Provide guidance and knowledge sharing to regional logistics teams, helping strengthen logistics capability and consistent application of processes globally.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and ensure logistics activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, ICON procedures and quality requirements.

Your Profile

You will bring strong practical logistics experience, ideally gained within the pharmaceutical, medical, healthcare or clinical research industry, together with the ability to operate effectively in a complex global environment.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Strong relevant logistics or supply chain experience.
  • Demonstrated logistics experience within the medical, pharmaceutical, healthcare or life sciences industry. Experience specifically within the clinical trial environment would be a significant advantage.
  • Strong practical understanding of international transportation, courier operations, import/export processes, customs requirements and global logistics networks.
  • Experience working with logistics providers, couriers and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve complex operational issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using logistics data and performance measures to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and take ownership of complex logistics issues in a fast-paced global environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with operational teams, suppliers, senior stakeholders and clients.
  • A tertiary qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and data/reporting tools used to analyze operational performance.
  • Willingness to travel as required, approximately 10%.
