Having progressed through multiple levels of responsibility within the company, this leader possesses extensive knowledge of structural packaging, retail displays, manufacturing processes, and team development. He has played an important role in expanding the design organization and is preparing to oversee a significantly larger team that includes packaging design, in-store design, manufacturing support, pre-flight, and design assistant functions.

The Position:

The Structural Designer is responsible for creating innovative and cost-effective structural packaging and display solutions that meet customer objectives while supporting manufacturing efficiency and business goals. This individual will manage projects from concept through production, ensuring designs meet requirements for quality, functionality, budget, production feasibility, and retail performance.

The role requires strong technical abilities, project management skills, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments. Success in the position requires balancing customer expectations with manufacturing capabilities while delivering solutions that are innovative, practical, and profitable.

Essential Functions (Other duties may be assigned):

• Develop structural packaging and display designs that meet customer requirements and manufacturing objectives.
• Manage assigned projects from concept development through production implementation.
• Collaborate with Account Managers and internal stakeholders to define project scope, timelines, and requirements.
• Create specifications suitable for accurate estimating and production execution.
• Develop setup instructions and supporting documentation for manufacturing and customer use.
• Review die-cut approvals and production materials for accuracy.
• Attend project meetings and provide technical design support throughout the development process.
• Build and evaluate prototypes to ensure quality, fit, functionality, and structural integrity.
• Maintain working knowledge of manufacturing capabilities and production processes.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in cross-functional projects.
• Maintain compliance with company procedures, ISO requirements, and safety standards.
• Present new ideas, trends, and industry knowledge to the design organization as appropriate.

Qualifications:

• Strong structural design experience within packaging, displays, corrugated products, or related industries.
• Ability to develop creative solutions while maintaining manufacturability and cost effectiveness.
• Experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities.

Education and Experience:

• Associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum of four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in structural packaging design, corrugated design, display design, or a related field is preferred.
• Familiarity with retail display programs, packaging structures, and manufacturing processes is beneficial.
