Job Description Summary:

Inspects the mine for hazards prior to and during the shift to ensure safety of all employees, contractors, and visitors. Documents and/or corrects issues as they are discovered. Responsible for working within safety guidelines in an efficient and productive manner. Other responsibilities include assisting other supervisors, employees, and contractors as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report on time as scheduled
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and effectively work with others
  • Inspect the mine and document/correct hazards (per Allegheny Met training guidelines)
  • Perform assigned duties safely and competently
  • Maintain and utilize proper safety equipment and apparel
  • Perform pre-operational equipment checks
  • Frequently check roof and rib conditions in work areas
  • Maintain all training and certifications as required by the company and/or state and federal law
  • Practice good housekeeping
  • Be aware of surroundings and other employees
  • Correct and/or report all safety hazards
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • None

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Walk, talk, see, and hear
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects such as tools or controls
  • Stand, sit, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl
  • Know how to use basic hand tools such as shovels and hammers
  • Ability to understand direction from supervisors and safety personnel
  • Ability to interpret safety signs and training material

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Qualified per Allegheny Met training guidelines
  • Valid underground mining certification(s)

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Overtime hours will be required to fulfill job responsibilities
  • Work is usually near moving mechanical parts and equipment
  • Possible exposure to hazards such as fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and electric shock
  • Conditions are often wet or humid, noisy, and in confined areas with limited visibility
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds
