Application Architect - Java & Security (Employed or freelance)

📋 Tasks and responsibilities

For projects within the health and care domain, you will define and monitor application architectures to ensure IT solutions match business needs. You will collaborate closely with analysts and development teams to deliver applications, services and system integrations.

A key focus is the design and rollout of a new authentication mechanism for applications connected to a central portal. You will help shape the migration approach towards the new authenticator and oversee alignment across the impacted applications. These solutions support the registration and validation of medical devices and stakeholders for the Belgian market. You will also closely follow the design and implementation of health-related digital initiatives.

• Design and steer application architecture in line with business and technical requirements
• Support the delivery of secure applications, services and integrations
• Guide migration paths towards a new authentication setup
• Work with analysts and development teams in an Agile environment
• Promote sound software engineering practices, including design patterns, API-first architecture and enterprise integration patterns
• Contribute to architectural decisions around microservices, security, CI/CD and platform environments such as Docker, Kubernetes and OpenShift

📝Your profile

You are an experienced application architect with a strong background in software engineering. Experience in roles such as lead developer, solution architect or application architect is important.

• Proven experience as a confirmed application architect
• Strong expertise in application architecture and software design patterns
• Solid knowledge of security principles and standards such as OWASP, OAuth and OpenID
• Experience with IAM and authentication solutions, including Keycloak
• Hands-on knowledge of Java and Spring Boot
• Experience with API development and API-first architectures
• Knowledge of microservices and enterprise integration patterns
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and OpenShift environments
• Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Comfortable working within Agile methodologies
