Opportunity Profile
Location: Sterling, VA
Position Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
The Opportunity:
This opportunity offers the chance to influence the strategic direction and financial evolution of a $100M+ services platform supported by a strong foundation of established businesses and experienced leadership.
Rather than stepping into a turnaround situation or inheriting a broken organization, the incoming CFO will join a healthy, growing enterprise at the exact moment when increased sophistication, integration, and strategic financial leadership become critical to the next phase of growth.
The organization is bringing together multiple operating companies under a single leadership structure, creating a unique opportunity for an accomplished finance executive to leave a lasting mark on the business. This role goes far beyond traditional accounting, compliance, and reporting responsibilities. The CFO will serve as a strategic business partner to executive leadership, helping drive visibility into the organization’s financial performance, identify opportunities for operational improvement, uncover profitability enhancements, and provide actionable financial insights that support growth initiatives.
One of the most significant projects facing the organization is the integration of multiple businesses, systems, and teams into a unified operating structure. The successful candidate will play a central role in ERP consolidation efforts, helping guide the organization through system integration while becoming the local subject matter expert on financial processes and reporting capabilities.
This position is ideal for a finance leader who thrives in environments where analysis drives action. The CFO will work directly alongside operational leaders to evaluate strategies, assess financial impacts, optimize labor and organizational structures, improve working capital performance, and create financial models that support executive decision-making.
The role offers significant runway for impact. Leadership is seeking someone capable of helping the organization scale from its current size into a substantially larger enterprise while building the financial infrastructure, team capabilities, and reporting sophistication necessary to support continued growth.
The Company:
The company is a well-established services platform comprised of three highly respected mechanical and facility service businesses with decades of operating history and proven market success. Collectively generating more than $100 million in annual revenue, the organization serves commercial and industrial customers across a broad range of service, maintenance, retrofit, and facility solutions.
Backed by strong private ownership, the business benefits from significant financial resources, operational expertise, and a long-term growth strategy. Unlike many middle-market organizations where capital constraints dominate financial decision-making, this platform enjoys the stability and support necessary to focus on operational excellence, strategic growth, and continuous improvement.
The organization is defined by a culture of execution, accountability, and collaboration. Employees operate in a fast-paced environment where responsiveness, operational efficiency, and customer service drive success. The company takes pride in being employee-focused, thoughtful about organizational decisions, and committed to maintaining a workplace where collaboration across departments is both expected and encouraged.
This is a lean organization that values results over hierarchy. Leaders are expected to roll up their sleeves, remain engaged in the details, and contribute directly to business outcomes.
The Boss:
The successful candidate will report directly to the senior business leader responsible for the organization’s overall performance and growth. This leader has built a culture centered on collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
Known for fostering a highly employee-centric environment, they place a strong emphasis on transparency, teamwork, and operational excellence. They firmly believe that “good enough is not good enough” and consistently challenge their teams to identify better ways to serve customers, improve processes, and enhance business performance. Their leadership style is both approachable and demanding, creating an environment where high expectations are matched by strong support, open communication, and mutual respect.
Unlike leaders who manage from a distance, they remain deeply engaged in the day-to-day operations of the business and value leaders who are equally committed to understanding the details while maintaining a strategic perspective. They appreciate individuals who are willing to challenge assumptions, think critically, and drive meaningful improvements rather than pursuing change simply for the sake of change.
For the CFO, this partnership will extend well beyond traditional financial reporting. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor, providing insight into business performance, helping evaluate strategic initiatives, improving organizational visibility, and contributing to key decisions that impact both profitability and employee success. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative business partner who combines strong financial expertise with exceptional interpersonal skills and a genuine desire to help elevate the organization to its next stage of growth.
The Position:
The Chief Financial Officer will serve as the senior financial leader for a well-established and growing services organization, providing the strategic financial leadership, analytical rigor, and operational insight necessary to support continued expansion, business integration, and organizational excellence.
This individual will oversee the finance and accounting organization, help integrate multiple business units and systems, lead ERP transition efforts, and partner closely with executive leadership on strategic planning and organizational decisions.
Success in the role will be defined by the ability to provide meaningful business insights, improve operational performance, support organizational integration, and build a scalable financial infrastructure capable of supporting future growth.
