SUMMARY
The Folder Operator sets up and runs folding equipment to produce a range of folds—from standard folds on standard stock to complex folds on difficult stock—meeting established speeds, quality standards, and quantity requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review job specifications to determine page sequence, fold type, page size, and packing requirements before starting.
- Communicate job details with team members and helpers to ensure the job runs correctly.
- Set up and run standard folds on standard paper stock.
- Run complex folds, including PI folds and folds on difficult stock.
- Preset side guides, fold plates, fold rollers, and any slitting, scoring, or perforating blades required.
- Jog and load paper onto the feeder.
- Adjust the machine during the run to maintain all quality and customer requirements.
- Log folded signatures or brochures for the next operation or for shipment, as needed.
- Operate two or more machines simultaneously, as needed.
- Record accurate counts of completed material in the data collection system and logbooks.
- Keep pace with the job ticket’s established speed while maintaining quality standards.
- Raise any questions to the Manager or Supervisor on duty before starting a job.
- Tag every skid and job accurately so material reaches the correct destination.
- Capture all job-related costs in the data collection system.
- Compare output against blueprints or a previous printed sample on reprints.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment according to schedule.
- Maintain an organized work area during and at the end of each shift.
Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions and job tickets.
- Knowledge of the mechanical setup of folders.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations.
- Strong analytical and computer skills.
- Ability to direct fellow crew members through the job; strong communication skills (bilingual a plus).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to lift 30 pounds.
- Able to stand and walk approximately 95% of the shift, with frequent bending and lifting.
