Description
You have a unique opportunity to help shape the future of data architecture at Skechers. As a Data Architect, you will be instrumental in defining, developing, and scaling our enterprise-wide data architecture. This includes implementing data governance, enabling data observability, and driving consistency in data design and usage across platforms. You will partner closely with engineering, analytics, security, and business teams to build a modern, secure, and reliable data foundation that supports reporting, analytics, and AI/ML use cases.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the design and implementation of enterprise data models, data pipelines, and data platforms to support strategic data initiatives.
- Develop architectural frameworks that support scalable and secure data processing using Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers).
- Define and enforce best practices for SCD Type 2 data modeling, change data capture (CDC), and change tracking across data domains.
- Establish and promote data governance principles including data quality, cataloging, lineage, and stewardship across the enterprise.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure architecture supports both batch and real-time data processing needs.
- Provide architectural guidance for data migration, integration, and modernization efforts across on-premises and cloud-based systems.
- Design and implement data observability mechanisms for monitoring data reliability, freshness, and schema drift.
- Develop and manage data security strategies to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Deliver proof of concepts, technical designs, and documentation that align with business and technical requirements.
- Mentor data engineers and analysts on architectural standards and best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience in designing, building, and maintaining enterprise data architecture solutions.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience building and documenting data pipelines and writing code in notebooks (e.g., Jupyter, Databricks).
- Deep understanding of dimensional modeling, data normalization, and SCD (Slowly Changing Dimension) techniques, particularly Type 2.
- Strong experience with modern data architecture paradigms including medallion architecture, data mesh, and data Lakehouse.
- Hands-on experience in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, Azure), ideally AWS (e.g., Glue, Lake Formation, Redshift, Athena).
- Familiarity with data cataloging, lineage tools, and metadata management solutions such as Collibra, Alation, or AWS Glue Data Catalog.
- Experience with data governance frameworks, data privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA), and implementation of row/column-level data access controls.
- Knowledge of change data capture (CDC) tools and patterns, including Debezium, Qlik Replicate, or AWS DMS.
- Proficient in data modeling tools such as Erwin, dbt, or similar.
- Experience with streaming and event-driven architectures (Kafka, Kinesis, Redpanda).
- Familiarity with SaaS platforms such as Databricks, Astronomer (Airflow), and Snowflake is a plus.
- Strong analytical mindset and ability to communicate architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in leading data architecture initiatives and aligning technical design with business needs.
- Experience working in Agile environments and participating in enterprise-level data transformation programs.
