Description
Under direction, supervises and directs a specialized area within the total City's recreation program, or a specialized type of recreation activity, and performs related work as required.
Location: This position is for the Fall / Winter camps with youth and will be held at community centers and parks.
Approximate employment duration: Approximate hours 25-30 per week. September – December.
Application Deadline: Applications are accepted until such time a sufficient number of qualified applications is received to fill the positions. Interviews will begin the week of July 27 and continue until all positions have been filled.
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED;
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license or equivalent mobility required.
- Candidates are required to possess a valid First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications or have the ability to obtain required certifications within one month of employment.
- Candidates accepting a conditional offer of employment with the City of Des Moines will be offered the opportunity to take the First Aid/CPR/AED training class through the City of Des Moines (class dates TBD).
- Candidates are required to possess a Mandatory Reporter Certification or have the ability to obtain required certification within one month of employment.
- Requires satisfactory background check.
- Leads assigned activities and supervises others in leading activities;
- Trains staff in leadership techniques, methods of activity planning, safety and public relations;
- Works closely with other recreation staff to assure the proper development of assigned activities.;
- Organizes and supervises one or more activities such as summer playground programs, aquatics programs, day camps, trips, arts and cultural activities, nature activities, sports and games, special population, senior activities or special events;
- Recruits and trains staff and volunteers to assist with program implementation, lead programs and ensure safety of participants;
- Tracks participation statistics;
- Maintains necessary records and submits required reports.
