The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Senior Flight Software Engineer to support our Flight Software Team located in El Segundo, CA. In this role, the individual will lead a team with design, implementation, and test of flight software with a focus on leadership, quality, earned value, and development of new capabilities for current and future satellite programs.  This position will support the Boeing Defense Services (BDS) business organization.

We are seeking Software Engineers that are passionate about space and excited to work in a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment that supports the design, development, and implementation of software for existing and emerging Boeing commercial and government space programs.

This exciting software engineer position requires demonstrated experience within the software ecosystem, a diverse background of project experience, and the clear exhibition of superior judgment and decision making to engineer new solutions and support existing capabilities of multiple software programming projects.  Demonstrated critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are required.

Position Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, integration, modification, test, and debugging of software that is integrated into embedded devices and systems and meets industry, customer, safety and regulation standards

• Lead review, analyses, and translation of customer requirements for software products for embedded devices and systems

• Review code for embedded systems software to run on specific specialized hardware

• Lead integration of embedded software with hardware components

• Lead analyses, monitoring and improvement of the efficiency and stability of embedded software systems

• Lead testing and debugging of software for embedded devices and systems

• Advise on software and hardware integration domains

• Lead tracking and evaluation of internal and supplier software team performance to ensure product and process compliance to project plans and industry standards

• Lead software project management functions

• Drive software execution to deliver products on-cost and on-schedule to programs

• Responsible for satellite and payload software safety, assurance, quality, and engineering excellence

• Produce and deliver design and test documentation and artifacts including program CDRLs

• Conduct Cyber Vulnerability Analysis (CVA) for multiple processing platforms within the satellite vehicle architecture

• Design and implement cyber monitoring algorithms

• Design and write custom tools and processes to support configuration automation and improve development workflow

• Interface with product stakeholders including software and hardware development teams, Systems Engineering, Product Security Engineering, and Testbed Engineering

• Working and interfacing with a technically diverse user community and a multi-disciplined integrated product team (systems and software).

• Highly motivated and must work well in a team environment

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Ability to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance post-start for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship

• 10+ years of experience in software development using languages such as C, C++, Java or Python

• 10+ years of experience designing and developing software for a real-time or non-real-time system

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 9+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 13+ years of directly related work experience OR 17+ years of related, relevant experience

• Experience with the full software development lifecycle that includes requirements analysis through Formal Qualification

• Experience using team collaboration tools including GitLab, Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence

• Experience in embedded real-time software development

• Experience with Wireshark or other network analysis tools and Debuggers

• Experience automating software builds, unit tests, and integration tests using a DevOps tool chain

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range/Senior: $171,700 - $232,300
