Description
The Town of Holly Springs is searching for a WRF Mechanic/Operator I/II/III to serve in the Utilities & Infrastructure department. This position will be maintenance-focused, supporting UCWRF operator duties. Responsibilities include confined space entry, preventive maintenance and repair of plant equipment such as pumps, blowers, mixers, valves, screens, centrifuges, UV systems, and process instrumentation. Workday schedule is 8-hours with occasional on-call 12-hour shifts as a relief operator. The starting annual salary range is $55,931.14--$62,855.95 (Grades G/H/I).
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the WRF Field Supervisor-Maintenance. Works under the scope of general policies, procedures and objectives and is carried out in accordance with standard practices, instructions or previous training. Incumbents have no supervisory responsibilities.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Not all duties may be assigned to each position. The allocation of duties for this position will vary and will be highly dependent upon the certification obtained.
1.Collects wastewater compliance samples, in accordance with EPA guidelines.
2.Collects process control samples and records data to understand trends in the water treatment process.
3.Monitors wastewater treatment process for changes or disturbances, makes timely changes to ensure the process is efficient as possible.
4.Performs maintenance and repairs of pumps, motors, blowers and all equipment found throughout the wastewater treatment plant.
5.Operates biological treatment system to ensure no odor negatively impacts the community.
6.Manages the Supervisory control and data acquisition of the treatment plant and keeps detailed records in accordance with the Town’s NPDES.
7.Documents plant operational data and work activities to computer records and daily logbooks.
8.Adjusts controls for well, low service pumps and high service pumps to provide reclaimed water to the Town.
9.Monitors and maintains adequate quantities of treatment chemicals. Adjusts chemical feed rates as required to maintain compliance with in the permit.
10.Troubleshoots and corrects maintenance and operational problems.
11.Monitors equipment operations and initiate repairs or replacement of equipment.
12.Provides technical advice to other plant employees with regards to the proper operation of the facility and its equipment.
13.Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all safety regulations; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.
14.Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting.
15.Provides backup assistance to other department personnel as needed.
16.Assists with emergency repairs and work as necessary.
17.Always on call to provide assistance in case of emergency situations, such as hurricanes.
18.Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Previous work experience in wastewater maintenance and operations.
•Level 1 Biological Wastewater Certification Grade 1
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Associate’s degree or coursework from an accredited college or technical school in biology, chemistry or related field of study
