Position Summary

The Arboriculture Supervisor advances the health, safety, and long-term resilience of Memorial Park’s urban forest by overseeing arboriculture operations across designated park areas. This role sets priorities, coordinates resources, and leads staff to ensure consistent, high-quality arboricultural work aligned with operational standards and long-term management goals. Maintaining a strong presence in the field, the Arboriculture Supervisor supports daily operations, reinforces expectations, and ensures alignment across crews while balancing planning, team leadership, and resource coordination. 

This role reports to the Conservation Manager. 

• Work Location: On-site at Memorial Park 
• Schedule: Monday–Friday at 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM; occasional evenings and weekends required based on operational needs (seasonal adjustments may apply) 
• Employment Status: Full-Time 
• FLSA Status: Exempt (Salaried)

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Execution 

• Plan, prioritize, and oversee arboriculture work across assigned areas. 
• Oversee and support implementation of arboricultural practices including tree risk mitigation, plant health care, structural pruning, irrigation oversight, and integrated pest management.  
• Evaluate tree health, structural risk, and site conditions to inform prioritization and operational decisions.  
• Ensure consistency in work quality, execution standards, and field practices across crews.  
• Adjust work plans in response to field conditions, weather, and operational priorities.  
• Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance, inspections, and tree assessments using established work order and tracking systems. 

Staff Leadership & Development 

• Supervise Coordinators and Technicians, setting clear expectations for performance, accountability, and daily execution.  
• Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development.  
• Coordinate staffing schedules and review timesheets. 
• Address performance matters in coordination with leadership. 
• Support hiring, onboarding, and training of staff.  

Planning & Resource Coordination 

• Develop weekly and seasonal work plans aligned with operational priorities.  
• Allocate staff, equipment, and materials across crews to support efficient execution.  
• Forecast material, equipment, and contractor needs.  
• Monitor supply usage and coordinate procurement requests. 

Safety & Operational Standards 

• Interact with park visitors in a courteous and professional manner and model service standards.  
• Reinforce safe work practices, proper equipment use, and compliance with safety policies, including required personal protective equipment (PPE).  
• Ensure consistent safety practices and operational standards across crews and assigned areas.  
• Monitor field operations and respond to safety concerns and operational risks as needed.  
• Oversee volunteer activities and special events to ensure alignment with operational standards and safety requirements. 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Five (5) or more years of professional experience in arboriculture, tree health care, urban forestry, or related field; at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.  
• Advanced knowledge of arboricultural practices including tree risk mitigation, plant health care systems, structural pruning, and integrated pest management. 
• Strong tree and pest identification skills; familiarity with native and invasive species preferred. 
• Proven ability to supervise field crews and manage daily operations. 
• Experience supporting operating budgets and coordinating vendor services. 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital work order or asset management systems; GIS familiarity preferred. 
• Valid Texas driver’s license. 

Preferred Certifications

• International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist  
• Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)  
• Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Pesticide Applicator License 

Physical & Environmental Requirements

• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.  
• Capacity to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and stand for extended periods.  
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a repetitive basis.  
• Safely operate motorized vehicles and power equipment.  
• Work safely in high-traffic public environments.  
• Perform work at heights following required safety training.
