Role Summary The Senior Android Platform Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining the foundational infrastructure that powers our mobile banking application ecosystem. You will not just be building app features; you will be building the tools, core libraries, and architectural frameworks that empower feature teams to deliver at scale. Your work will directly impact developer velocity, app performance, and the structural integrity of a highly regulated, secure banking application.
Key Responsibilities
- Developer Experience (DX) & Tooling: Design and implement internal tools, foundational libraries, and SDKs. Analyze and optimize Gradle build logs and processes to significantly reduce build times for the broader engineering organisation.
- Architecture & Modularisation: Drive the decoupling of legacy code into a highly modular architecture, ensuring clear boundaries and optimised dependency graphs.
- Core UI & Frameworks: Build and optimise core, reusable Jetpack Compose components and design systems utilised across multiple feature squads.
- Feature Management Infrastructure: Implement and maintain robust wrapper API architectures for feature flag management, ensuring safe, decoupled release cycles and phased rollouts.
- Quality & CI/CD: Contribute to the automation of CI/CD pipelines. Write extensive unit and integration tests for platform-level code to prevent regressions in the shared codebase.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 15+ years of Android engineering, with specific experience working on platform, infrastructure, or core architecture teams.
- Deep Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Kotlin, the Android SDK, and deep familiarity with Gradle build system internals and performance profiling.
- Architecture & Scale: Proven experience navigating and refactoring large, complex, multi-module codebases.
- Security & Compliance: Strong understanding of mobile security best practices (keystore, encryption, obfuscation) required for banking/FinTech applications.
Lead Android Engineer (Mobile Platform)
Role Summary The Lead Android Platform Engineer sets the technical vision and architectural strategy for our mobile banking platform. You will act as the technical authority on mobile infrastructure, driving initiatives in CI/CD automation, scalable modularisation, and platform security, while ensuring the ecosystem meets the rigorous demands of the UK banking sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Strategy & Governance: Define and enforce architectural standards, writing Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) to guide the technical evolution of a shared codebase supporting hundreds of concurrent contributors.
- Infrastructure Leadership: Lead major infrastructure overhauls, including advanced modularisation strategies, dependency management at scale, and comprehensive CI/CD pipeline automation.
- System Integration & Safety: Architect robust, standardised integration patterns for third-party tools and internal systems.
- Cross-Team Enablement: Partner with Engineering Managers and Product Owners across various feature domains to identify platform bottlenecks, resolve integration conflicts, and plan the technical backlog.
- Mentorship & Advocacy: Elevate the engineering standards of the entire mobile organisation. Mentor senior platform engineers and evangelize best practices in performance profiling, memory management, and secure coding.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 15+ years of mobile engineering experience, with a proven track record of technical leadership in a platform or core infrastructure role within a high-scale environment.
- Scale & Complexity: Expert-level experience managing shared mobile codebases for 100+ engineers, resolving complex Git workflows, and optimising build infrastructure at an enterprise scale.
- FinTech/Banking Acumen: Deep understanding of the compliance, regulatory, and security requirements inherent in building financial applications.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex infrastructural needs into business value, advocating for technical debt reduction and architectural investments to senior stakeholders.
