The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.
Position Available: Research Fellow, Plasma physics for Fusion Energy
Key Responsibilities:
The project aims to investigate boundary plasma turbulence and turbulent transport in tokamak edge and scrape-off layer (SOL) plasmas using theory and three-dimensional fluid modelling. The Research Fellow will be employed and based at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.
The holder will:
Develop and apply 3D fluid turbulence models for tokamak edge/SOL plasmas.
Run and analyse large-scale simulations; quantify particle/heat transport and turbulence statistics.
Validate and interpret results with collaborators, and document outcomes in publications and reports.
Job Requirements:
PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Plasma Physics, or related field.
Demonstrated experience in scientific computing and numerical modelling (e.g., Python/C/C++/Fortran).
Experience with HPC (Linux, batch systems) and handling large simulation datasets (I/O, post-processing, analysis).
Background in theoretical physics with at least basic knowledge of plasma physics and turbulence/transport concepts.
Demonstrated scientific productivity (peer-reviewed publications).
Ability to work effectively in an international, collaborative research environment (including overseas travel).
