Description
The snapshot
Staffstream is hiring a Financial Accountant for a growing Australian facilities services business. They manage large-scale cleaning, hygiene, and building maintenance contracts for commercial and industrial clients, and this role is a core part of the finance team, making sure the group's financial affairs are properly controlled, accurately reported, and compliant with Australian statutory requirements.
You'd work closely with the CFO, preparing management accounts, statutory reports, and reconciliations across the group, while also managing payroll for salaried staff and providing day-to-day support and supervision to other members of the finance team. This role is open to candidates based in the Philippines.
What you will actually do
Financial reporting and operations
- Assist with preparing monthly management accounts for distribution to management on a timely basis, including Profit and Loss Statements, Balance Sheets, and Debtor and Creditor Reports on a company and divisional basis.
- Assist with analytical review of month-end results ahead of discussion with the CFO.
- Prepare monthly Business Activity Statements and PAYG Instalments.
- Review and monitor the group's accounts on an ongoing basis to ensure accurate reporting in line with Australian Accounting Standards.
- Provide financial advice on operational issues, applying financial principles and developing practical recommendations.
- Prepare special reports, including studying variances, preparing budgets, and developing forecasts.
- Help manage and maintain the finance department's IT systems, continuously reviewing them to ensure they meet the organisation's needs.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage and protect the group's financial information and records, and provide ad hoc support to the CFO as required.
Payroll
- Manage the payroll function for salaried staff.
- Process monthly payroll for salaried staff.
- Handle payroll administration matters relating to salaried staff.
- Prepare ad hoc payroll reports as required.
Leadership and compliance
- Demonstrate knowledge of, compliance with, and promotion of the business's policies and procedures.
- Help identify and control health and safety risks, and support effective incident reporting and investigation where relevant.
- Provide staff with ongoing support and supervision in line with company policies and procedures. This role carries a genuine leadership element, not just individual output.
What you need to bring
- Substantial experience working as a Financial Accountant, including experience preparing statutory financial statements.
- A tertiary qualification in finance or accounting, and membership of a professional Australian accounting body (CPA or CA), or significant progress toward it.
- Advanced, hands-on proficiency in Xero. This is a non-negotiable requirement for the role.
- Genuine Australian accounting experience: sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, GST, and Fringe Benefits Tax legislation, with real experience preparing Business Activity Statements and annual FBT returns. This role handles Australian statutory obligations directly, so this isn't generic bookkeeping knowledge, it's essential.
- Real leadership or supervisory experience, having directly supported or overseen other staff in a finance or payroll function. This is also non-negotiable for this role.
- Proven ability to carry out reconciliations in a complex, multi-entity or multi-divisional accounting environment.
- Strong communication skills, comfortable engaging at all levels of management and building genuine stakeholder relationships.
- Advanced Excel skills, with strong analytical, planning, and organizational ability, including prioritizing work and allocating resources effectively.
Nice to have
- Prior experience with payroll processing and administration specifically.
- Experience with Infoware, or a comparable industry-specific finance or operations platform, is preferred but not essential.
The setup
- This role is open to Philippines-based candidates.
- Fully remote, working full Australian business hours.
- Staffstream provides your work-from-home equipment.
What's in it for you
- HMO health cover, with one dependent covered for free.
- Group life insurance.
- Paid leave credits.
- Work-from-home equipment provided.
You're employed compliantly under Philippine law: a proper local employment contract, your taxes handled correctly, and all your government-mandated benefits (SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG) plus 13th month pay. That means real security and peace of mind, not a loose freelance arrangement. Everything is above board and looked after for you.
