The Big Task
You'll work alongside a Lead Technician or Service Technician, learning the plumbing and heating trade from the ground up — everything from soldering and pipe work to fixture installation and system diagnostics. This isn't a role where you're handed a wrench and left to figure it out. You'll be mentored, coached, and expected to grow — and in exchange, we expect you to show up hungry to learn, reliable, and ready to work hard on behalf of our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist Service and Install Technicians with plumbing and heating repairs, installations, and system diagnostics
- Learn plumbing techniques such as soldering, pipe threading, drain cleaning, fixture installation, and gas leak testing and repair
- Apply local plumbing codes on the job with guidance from your lead technician
- Support both Service and Install departments as workload requires, including retrofit and replacement work
- Help deliver work that meets or exceeds our quality control standards
- Communicate clearly with your lead technician to make sure jobs are completed on time and to the customer's satisfaction
- Represent Grand Lake Plumbing & Heating professionally in every customer's home
- Focus on delivering more than the customer expects, every time
- Take a proactive approach to your own development — study the code, ask questions, and put in the reps to advance your skills
- Take a proactive stance on safety and report any concerns immediately
- Take ownership of your work and your growth within the company
We're not looking for someone who already knows the trade — we're looking for someone who wants to. Technical skill can be taught; work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn can't. We want an apprentice who shows up on time, keeps a positive attitude even when the work is hard, and takes real pride in doing the job right.
You Will Succeed In This Role If You:
- Are mechanically inclined and enjoy hands-on, detailed work
- Are goal-oriented, self-starting, and energetic
- Take direction well and are eager to learn from experienced technicians
- Are dependable — showing up on time, every time, with the right attitude
- Work well with others and stay flexible when schedules or job needs change
- Align with our core values: Be Positive, Be a Team Player, Be Solution Oriented, Be Your Best, Do the Right Thing
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior hands-on experience with plumbing or mechanical work is a plus, but not required
- Must be willing to obtain your own basic hand tools within 90 days of starting
- Valid Colorado driver's license required
- Primary work location is Grand Lake, Colorado, with travel to customer homes and job sites throughout Grand County
- Work includes both indoor and outdoor conditions, including attics, crawl spaces, and mechanical rooms, across all Colorado seasons
- Typical workweek is 8–10 hour days, five days a week, with occasional weekend work as job needs require
- Apprentices are required to attend a weekly training at 6:45am, plus a department meeting once a week at 6:45am
