Reimagine What’s Possible
At Air Products, we have been helping our customers to become more productive, energy efficient and sustainable for more than 85 years. With approximately 20,000 employees and operations in over 50 countries, we serve customers across a wide range of industries from food and beverage to medical, energy and transportation. We supply a unique portfolio of atmospheric and process gases, equipment, and services.
An opportunity exists within our Commissioning Team for an ambitious Commissioning Engineer to be based in our European Head Office in Chertsey, Surrey and mobilise to project sites as required.
The Commissioning Engineer will;
- Lead and implement safe, compliant commissioning and start-up activities for Air Separation Units (ASUs) and other industrial gas plants across Europe and Africa.
- Own commissioning and start-up planning for complex, multi-discipline plant systems and interfaces.
- Coordinate site teams, engineering teams, vendors and project management to resolve technical and delivery issues.
- Apply sound engineering judgement to process systems, plant operations and high-risk start-up activities.
- Support broader project engineering and delivery priorities (including construction) between active commissioning assignments.
- Work autonomously within approved project controls, HSE requirements and regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities;
- Lead site commissioning, system handover, start-up and performance-support activities for ASUs and industrial gas facilities.
- Develop and maintain integrated commissioning and start-up schedules using Microsoft Project.
- Prepare commissioning strategies, execution plans, system priorities, resource requirements and progress updates.
- Coordinate technical workflows across construction, operations, engineering teams, vendors and project management.
- Identify and resolve commissioning risks, constraints, defects and interface issues through disciplined follow-up.
- Verify readiness for energisation, introduction of process fluids and start-up in accordance with approved procedures.
- Monitor schedule performance and communicate status, critical-path impacts and recovery actions to the Project Manager.
- Support project engineering work and broader project delivery goals outside active commissioning phases.
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to improved commissioning methods, planning and knowledge transfer.
The role also supports the Project Manager as a Project Engineer outside active commissioning periods, connecting construction, engineering teams and project delivery.
This role provides a development pathway toward future Commissioning Manager or Project Manager responsibilities.
