We need a Clinical Psychologist, preferably with an interest in working towards the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology, who’s passionate about helping people with a range of brain injuries, often with a mental health co-morbidity, to join our team in our male neuropsychiatric service, at Cygnet Paddocks.

Cygnet Paddocks:
Cygnet Paddocks is our specialist Neuropsychiatric rehabilitation service for men. The service provides a dedicated care pathway for men affected by acquired brain injury or neurological conditions, where behaviours that challenge are the overarching impairment to recovery and rehabilitation. The service opened in June 2024.
The individually designed wards replicate the well-established rehabilitation and treatment pathways already successfully offered by Cygnet in other Neuropsychiatric Rehabilitation services; facilitating a clear and distinctive care and treatment pathway led by an all-encompassing in-house clinical and medical team.
Your Day-to-Day…
At Cygnet Paddocks, you will be overseeing the psychology service and providing supervision to the on-site psychology team at Cygnet Paddocks, comprising of a qualified psychologist and two assistant psychologists. The unit uses a positive behaviour support model, with ABC charts and incident management systems in place to support the functional assessment of behaviour. There will be opportunities to carry out cognitive assessment, neuro-rehabilitation, capacity assessment, risk assessment and psychological therapy.
Cygnet has 8 neuropsychiatry services across the country, each of which has at least one qualified psychologist/neuropsychologist on site. Psychologists at these sites form the national neuropsychology team. The national team has monthly governance meetings to discuss best practice guidelines, support standardised practice and share clinical cases. There is a consultant neuropsychologist already in post within the national neuropsychology team. The national neuropsychology team have a variety of training in skills in areas such as forensic psychology, trauma therapy and EMDR, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Some members of the team are being supported to complete Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology and are currently undertaking the knowledge component.
Your role will be to:
- Oversee and co-ordinate the psychology service at Cygnet Paddocks.
- Provide line management and supervision to the psychologist and assistants on site
- Provide line management and supervision to other psychologists in the national neuropsychology department.
- Contribute to the Cygnet national neuropsychology department through attending and chairing meetings, presenting case studies, supporting the development of standardised practice, leading/contributing to service development projects, service related research and promoting positive governance practices.
- Positively contribute to the multidisciplinary team at Cygnet Paddocks.
- Carry out psychological assessments & provide therapy to individuals & groups.
- Support Cygnet Paddocks to implement the positive behaviour support approach to managing residents, including providing staff support and training and ensuring all residents at Cygnet Paddocks have an up to date positive behaviour support plan that is reflective of their needs.
- Collaboratively develop care plans, risk assessments and risk management measures with the MDT.
- Provide training & supervision to colleagues, and consultation to teams.
- Evaluate the local and national neuropsychology/neuropsychiatry service, contribute to its development & carry out clinical research.
- Disseminate outcomes via conference presentations and publications.
We are looking for someone who is...
- A HCPC registered Practitioner or Neuro Psychologist, ideally with experience of working in a neuro-rehabilitation and/or mental health/forensic settings.
- On the British Psychological Society Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists or working towards this.
- On the British Psychological Society register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors or eligible for entry onto this.
- Passionate about working with people presenting with complex range of Neuropsychological difficulties.
- Capable of providing treatment for people with cognitive impairments such as memory problems, executive functioning difficulties, language difficulties alongside mental health difficulties, self-harm, physical & verbal aggression, history of sexual offending and drug & alcohol problem where appropriate and associated with Neuropsychological issues.
