The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Planner to join our Project Controls team and play a key role in the successful delivery of major projects. In this position, you will lead the development, review and monitoring of project cost plans, budgets and forecasts, ensuring robust cost planning practices are embedded throughout the project lifecycle.
Working closely with project teams, you will provide expert guidance and support to drive cost certainty, effective budget management and informed decision-making.
As a trusted advisor within the business, you will collaborate with stakeholders across Project Controls, Design, Procurement, Construction and Operations to deliver accurate cost reporting, forecasting and performance insights.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the development, review and continuous management of project cost plans, budgets and cost planning frameworks throughout the project lifecycle.
Provide expert cost planning advice and support to Project Controls, Operations, Design, Procurement and Construction teams to enable informed decision-making and successful project delivery.
Manage cost forecasting, benchmarking and performance reporting, including the development and maintenance of cost tracking systems, dashboards and project controls tools.
Identify, analyse and report on cost risks, trends, opportunities and value engineering initiatives, supporting effective risk and opportunity management.
Monitor project cost performance and completion reporting, capturing lessons learned and benchmarking data to improve estimating accuracy and drive continuous improvement across projects.
Required Skills and Competencies
Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Commerce or a related discipline, combined with significant experience in cost planning, quantity surveying, estimating or project controls within major infrastructure, construction or civil projects.
Strong understanding of cost planning methodologies, budgeting, forecasting and cost management principles, supported by proficiency in cost estimating, planning and reporting systems.
Demonstrated experience working within complex, multidisciplinary project environments, with the ability to manage competing priorities and stakeholder expectations.
Highly developed analytical, reporting and stakeholder engagement skills, with advanced Excel and dashboard reporting capabilities and the ability to influence, coach and support project teams in best-practice cost management.
