Position Purpose:
The Assistant Branch Manager (ABM) – Greenfield at SRS Distribution plays a critical role in supporting the Branch Manager in driving operational excellence, financial performance, and customer satisfaction within a new or developing branch location. This position requires strong operational leadership, business acumen, team development capability, and a customer-focused mindset. The ABM helps ensure efficient daily operations, supports revenue growth initiatives, develops high-performing teams, and contributes to strategic plans that position the branch for long-term success within the SRS Distribution network.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership: Partner with the Branch Manager to implement SRS standards, optimize warehouse and yard operations, and execute initiatives that improve productivity, service levels, and overall branch efficiency.
Financial Performance: Support achievement of branch revenue and profitability goals by monitoring key financial metrics, managing expenses, assisting with inventory control, and reinforcing sales initiatives.
Team Development: Lead, coach, and develop branch team members including warehouse associates, drivers, and inside sales staff. Provide ongoing training, performance feedback, and promote a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork.
Customer Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors and customers. Proactively resolve service issues, ensure timely order fulfillment, and reinforce SRS’s commitment to exceptional service.
Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Branch Manager to execute growth strategies, expand market presence, and identify opportunities to increase market share within the local trade area.
Reporting and Analysis: Review branch performance metrics including sales, gross margin, operating expenses, inventory turns, and service levels. Provide insights and recommendations to improve operational and financial outcomes.
Operational Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with SRS policies, DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and company safety programs. Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused warehouse and yard environment.
Inventory and Asset Management: Assist with inventory control processes, cycle counts, loss prevention, fleet coordination, and proper handling of materials and equipment.
Direct Manager / Direct Reports:
Reports To: Branch Manager
Direct Reports: Supervises warehouse associates, drivers, and inside sales personnel as assigned. Responsible for directing daily workflow, training employees, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to company standards. Works closely with sales and operations teams to achieve branch goals.
Travel Requirements:
Up to 25% travel may be required for regional meetings, training sessions, customer visits, and support of other branch locations as needed.
Physical Requirements:
This role involves both office and warehouse responsibilities. The Assistant Branch Manager must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift materials up to 75 pounds. The position requires use of standard office equipment, frequent communication with employees and customers, and the ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments. Working Conditions:
The ABM operates in a fast-paced distribution environment that includes office administration, warehouse oversight, yard operations, and direct customer interaction. Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to supervise teams, coordinate operations, and execute company processes effectively.
Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills.
Basic understanding of financial reports including sales, gross margin, and operating expenses.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; experience with ERP or warehouse management systems preferred.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting greenfield or startup branch operations.
Working knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, and cost control in a distribution environment.
Project management experience with ability to manage multiple operational initiatives.
Leadership development experience and ability to coach high-performing teams.
Knowledge of DOT regulations, OSHA safety standards, and warehouse best practices.
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred Education:
Associate or bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or related field is beneficial but not required.
Minimum Years of Work Experience:
2+ years in a supervisory or assistant management role within warehouse or distribution operations; 5+ years in building materials or related industry preferred.
Certifications:
Not required, though OSHA and equipment operation certifications are advantageous.

Financial Acumen: Competence in reviewing branch financial performance and supporting profitability goals.
