We are looking for an experienced Non-QM (Non-Qualified Mortgage) Underwriter to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of underwriting non-QM loans, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and industry regulations while supporting the needs of borrowers who do not meet traditional mortgage standards. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with the ability to assess complex income documentation, analyze risk, and make informed underwriting decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate loan applications, including credit, income, assets, and property details, to determine borrower eligibility for non-QM loans.
- Analyze complex financial information, including alternative documentation types (e.g., bank statements, asset depletion, and debt service coverage).
- Assess risk and make sound underwriting decisions in accordance with company guidelines and applicable regulations.
- Work collaboratively with loan officers, processors, and other team members to obtain additional information or documentation needed for underwriting.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of non-QM lending products and stay updated on industry trends and changes in regulations.
- Ensure timely and efficient processing of loan files to meet closing deadlines.
- Provide clear and accurate feedback on loan conditions and communicate effectively with internal teams to resolve any outstanding issues.
- Assist in developing and updating underwriting policies and procedures specific to non-QM products.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by responding promptly to inquiries and providing expert guidance.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of [4] years of mortgage underwriting experience, with specific expertise in non-QM loan products.
- Thorough knowledge of mortgage lending guidelines, including non-QM product types and alternative documentation methods.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in mortgage software systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple files simultaneously.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven problem-solving capabilities and the ability to make decisions with confidence.
