Job Summary:
Provides comprehensive plant and capital asset accounting support by managing CWIP and fixed asset activities, preparing and analyzing financial reports, ensuring accurate project capitalization, conducting field validations, and maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.Job Description:
Supports comprehensive plant accounting by managing construction work in progress (CWIP) and fixed asset processes (including depreciation, transfers, retirements, and reconciliations), preparing journal entries, financial analyses, and reports, and contributing to monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close activities while also assisting general accounting functions as needed.
Evaluates and validates capital project expenditures by ensuring accurate classification and capitalization in accordance with company policies and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), analyzing construction work orders and coordinating with project managers for timely project closeout, while performing periodic field validations to confirm assets placed in service and ensure complete and accurate asset capitalization.
Ensures audit readiness and strengthens accounting accuracy and internal controls by preparing audit schedules and documentation, responding to audit inquiries, identifying issues and recommending improvements, while advancing plant accounting operations through process optimization, automation opportunities, and active participation in ERP/system initiatives including testing, documentation, issue resolution, and implementation support.
Follows established company policies, procedures, and standards to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and industry regulations.
Participates in storm restoration tasks and assigned drills to contribute to the safe and reliable recovery of services.
Performs additional tasks aligned with role expectations and qualifications to support team goals and operational flexibility.
Additional Job Description:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting (preferred), Finance or Business Administration
Experience
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience with functional role responsibilities, and working with data collection, analysis and interpretation
Additional experience may substitute for required education when it aligns with the competencies and knowledge necessary for the role:
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration may substitute when accompanied by a minimum of 8 years of experience performing similar functions and at least 5 years of experience performing a previous Accountant role.
- Experience with fixed assets accounting, capitalization, depreciation, and construction work in progress (CWIP).
- Experience with capital project accounting and project cost analysis.
- Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Experience analyzing financial data and preparing account analysis and financial reports.
- Experience with inventory accounting and cycle count adjustments.
- Experience supporting internal and external audits.
