Description
We are seeking a Senior Rapid Prototyping Engineer for its Advanced Technology team within the Electrical Sector’s Protection, Control and Solutions business. The expected annual salary range for this role is $86,000 to $126,000 per year. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. ## What you’ll do:
This position will support the Advanced Technology team’s efforts to rapidly develop next-generation power electronic based circuit protection technology and products to be used in both low voltage and medium voltage AC & DC applications. This position is responsible for engaging with the cross-functional Advanced Technology engineering team, onsite lab operations team, and external vendors to efficiently develop “Minimum Viable Product” prototypes. This position will also be responsible for driving efficiency, speed, and robustness into the Advanced Technology product development and prototyping cycle. This role offers a hybrid working schedule of two days remote and three days in office at our Moon Township, PA facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop strong technical knowledge in power electronic based circuit breaker design, testing, and applications.
- Engage with onsite machine shop and external vendors to rapidly procure various prototype parts & assemblies.
- Develop and maintain key relationships with internal and external vendors to optimize lead time and efficiency.
- Engage with Eaton’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence to innovate on part manufacturing processes.
- Engage with Eaton’s onsite Industrial Design Team to develop brand-aligned prototype HMI systems and product displays.
- Develop and maintain parts incoming inspection procedure for prototype build.
- Rapidly & efficiently bring “Minimum Viable Product” prototypes to life through hands-on prototype building and validation.
- Utilize statistical quality tools to establish prototype performance baselines and identify focus areas for robustness improvement.
- Methodically document prototype assembly procedures and troubleshooting.
- Work with project team to generate and execute test programs and test protocols to determine if design criteria for system, software and hardware are met.
- Drive development of prototype assembly fixtures and tooling as needed.
- Assist in procurement of necessary lab equipment, tooling, etc.
- Understand and comply with site specific electrical test lab equipment and procedures, including health, safety and security aspects.
- Follow Prelaunch and PROLaunch phase-gate new product development processes.
- Create technical reports and presentation.
- Generate value added intellectual property.
## Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Materials Science from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years of engineering experience in R&D prototyping.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in product industrialization or manufacturing operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science from an accredited institution.
- Experience working with cross-functional products that blend power electronic switching devices, mechanical hardware, embedded hardware and firmware.
- Experience with traditional and additive part manufacturing methods and techniques.
- General knowledge of industrial circuit breaker functionality and applications.
- Experience with new product development phase-gate processes and DFSS tools.
