Description
POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented General Accountant to support the accounting needs of both a commercial real estate portfolio and a bar/hospitality operation. This hybrid position combines remote work with regular on-site responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Yardi and QuickBooks, a strong understanding of real estate accounting, and the ability to manage accounting activities across multiple entities and business operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate general ledgers for multiple entities, properties, and business operations.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and intercompany transactions.
- Complete monthly bank, credit card, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor invoices, tenant charges, customer payments, and collection follow-up.
- Maintain accounting records in Yardi for commercial real estate operations and QuickBooks for the bar/hospitality business.
- Assist with commercial property accounting, including tenant ledgers, rent payments, common area maintenance charges, recoveries, and annual CAM reconciliations.
- Review lease information and ensure tenant charges are accurately reflected in the accounting system.
- Reconcile daily bar sales, point-of-sale activity, cash deposits, credit card receipts, discounts, refunds, tips, and processing fees.
- Assist with inventory, cost-of-goods-sold, and vendor reconciliations for the bar operation.
- Track fixed assets, prepaid expenses, security deposits, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with gross receipts tax reporting, 1099 preparation, audits, and other regulatory requirements.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for management, external accountants, lenders, and auditors.
- Research discrepancies and recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal controls.
- Maintain organized, complete, and confidential financial records.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least three years of general accounting experience, including commercial real estate or property accounting experience.
- Proficiency in both Yardi and QuickBooks.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and month-end closing procedures.
- Experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, judgment, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently across multiple entities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience accounting for a bar, restaurant, hospitality business, or other cash- and credit-card-intensive operation.
- Experience with commercial leases, tenant accounting, CAM reconciliations, and multi-entity accounting.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, inventory accounting, payroll entries, and New Mexico gross receipts tax.
- CPA or CPA-track candidate is preferred but not required.
Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid position requiring a combination of remote and on-site work in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The employee must be available to work on-site as business needs require, including collaboration with property management, operations, and bar leadership. The specific hybrid schedule will be established by management.
Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required to support inventory counts, month-end activities, or operational needs.
